89 in the second innings of the Lord's Test in 1948 he was c. WJ Edrich B. AV
Bedser
next was 82 in the second innings of the Sydney Test in 1936/7 where he was
bowled H Verity
after that there was 2 79's
so I guess if you were the opposition and Bradman made it to 80 you were on a
fair bet that he would make a century.

Ridiculous. Everyone knows God is a left hander, so he would
have probably padded it away, and he almost certainly wouldn't
have been given out lbw.
IIRC, this statement was made about a Jeff Thomson delivery, perhaps in
the Eng-Aus '74-75 series. Dennis Amiss is a name that comes to mind.

Actually tt was Viv Richards who said the same about Jeff Thomson during
the 1975-75 debalce.
For long I thought it was Lloyd, but only recently I found out that it
was IVAR.

I'm sorry, you are mistaken. There was no Ashes series in 1981.

Sunil Gavaskar and his sister (Vishwanath’s wife) have represented
India in International cricket
> 3. Who took the 1st hat-trick in ODIs?
The first hat-trick in ODIs was performd by Jalaluddin for Pakistan vs
Australia at Hyderabad on 9/20/82 (victims Marsh, Yardley and Lawson).
There have been 13 ODI hat-tricks so far, the last by Saqlain vs
Zombabwe in WC99

Fans would throw their hats on the ice when a player would score 3
goals in ice hockey (not sure if this is the right answer)
> 6. In cricket terminology, what is a Chinese cut?
A Chinese cut is when a batsman inside-edges the ball to fine leg when
attempting a square-cut and narrowly misses being bowled. Also called
a French cut. Both these terms are inappropriate and highly racist,
implying that the Chinese and French don’t know how to play cricket.
The politically correct nomenclature is “leg cut” or “lucky cut”.

Pakistan 87/9 beat India 80/9 in a 16-over ODI match at Gujranwala on
12/18/89. Zimbabwe made 63 all out in the second innings chasing a
target of 99 vs west Indies in the First Test at Port of Spain, March

Actually, the correct nomenclature is "Guyanese late cut," so called
because of the streaky batting of a Harrison College schoolboy named
Pelham Warner when he moved from South America to attempt to acquire a
good cricket education in Barbados.
> Both these terms are inappropriate and highly racist,

Absolutely! It is only NOT racist when applied to the Guyanese, whose
batting technique is demonstrably much worse than that of any French or
Chinese cricketers.

The "Guyanese late cut" played by Kanhai, Lloyd and Hooper was a thing
of beauty which Barbadians would do well to imitate.
Getting back to the other questions posed by Dr. S. Ashtekar -
8. In what unique way was the India vs. nottinghamshire match at Trent
bridge in 1974 interrupted?
The Trent bridge collapsed preventing the players and spectators from
getting to the ground?
10. Who is Sunil Gavaskar's only test victim as a bowler?
Zaheer Abbas c Chauhan b Gavaskar 96 vs Pakistan at Faisalabad in 1978-
79
11. Name the persons the following nicknames belong to:
whispering death - Michael Holding
big bird – Mark Fidrych, Detroit Tigers Pitcher?; Or the character in
Sesame Street?
the croucher – the wicket-keeper, Wally Grout Aussie keeper?
iceman – George Gervin, prolific scorer for the NBA San Antonio Spurs?
tomohawk - Jeff (Tomo) Thomson, feared Aussie pacer? Or Neil Hawke,
not-so-feared Aussie medium pacer? Or probably a batsman who would play
the pull shot like a tomahawk
12. Who has scored the most runs in any form of cricket to date? How
many centuries did he score?
Jack Hobbs: 61,237 first-class runs with 197 centuries. Played from
1905 to 1934
14. Who has taken the most wickets in any form of cricket?
Wilfred Rhodes, slow left arm spinner for England/Yorkshire. 3608
county wickets and 127 Test wickets. Played from 1898 to 1930
16. In the match in which Laker took 19 wickets, who took the other?
Tony Lock: JW Burke c Cowdrey b Lock 22 in Australian first innings
20. The 1981 Ashes series are also referred to by another name. What is
series also called?
The Botham series?

Nah, that would be the Eksteens.
Cindy Eksteen has represented South Africa. Has her brother?
Other chances are Anjum Chopra, but I am not sure if the Chopra in the
Indian team is her brother or her cousin

Hmmm ..... "any form of cricket". Graham Gooch scored 65,928 runs including
Tests, FC games, ODI's, domestic OD games etc. Hobbs scored 61,237 FC runs,
but played no OD cricket. There was an article about this in the 1998
Wisden, and I'd say the original poster had this in mind. BTW, Gooch scored
170 centuries in all.
I also have a vague recollection of a club cricketer somewhere who played
for about 50 years and claimed he had scored more runs than Hobbs.

I mentioned Sunny G and sis (sorry, don’t even know her name) because I
happened to be in India in April 1997 and the state-run TV,
Doordarshan, was broadcasting a 2-wicket ladies tournament in honor of
Diana Eduljee, India’s First Lady in women’s cricket. The commentators
said that Sunny’s sister had played a big role for India in the 70s –
don’t know if she actually played for India. What I remember is the
virtually empty stands at the Brabourne Stadium, Bombay, where the
tournament was being held, and Diana’s parents sitting on folding
chairs beyond the boundary ropes. The look of pride on their faces!
Thanks very much for your role in getting women’s cricket on the
CricInfo map. Hope it is possible to have the archives cover all the
ODIs and Test matches played in women’s cricket, and the player pages
to include all women who played International Cricket. Thanks also for
CricInfo’s sponsorship of the Rani Jhansi tournament and women’s World
Cup. Hope WC2000 is a huge success. Go India Dames!

Kavita, Sunil Gavaskar's sister, married Gundappa Vishwanath. I don't
remember Kavita playing cricket for India. I don't know if she played
cricket competitively at any level.

Another possibility is Lisa and Nathan Astle. Nathan has obviously played
plenty of international cricket. Lisa has mainly played for the NZ
second XI but may have gotten a run in the 1sts. Not in the last couple
of years though.

Australia vs West Indies at the SCG a few yerars ago now. I think Australia
reached 90 or so in a rain affected match and the Windies were bundled out
for 80 odd. Man of the Match I think was Mark Taylor with 4 catches....
