I have always been a person who has been in favor of Sachin
retiring. So leaving me aside, I today see so many people
today, esp youngsters (some of them big fans of SRT) now
baying for his blood to retire.

How selfish SRT has become is mind-boggling indeed. He came
in as a precocious 17-year old and made the most of it, but
now he is denying other 17-year olds of a place in the national
squad.

He has achieved all that he wanted to and more. He has made
mountains of money and continues to take mega-endorsements and
yet he avers that he is playing for his passion for the game..
Then why not play for free, one could rightly ask at this juncture.
But he will not retire because he has cronies and chamchaas
around him in the likes of Bhajji and others in the BCCI echelons.

Selfish R Tendulkar... this name sounds more appropriate now.

I am big fan of SRT as batsmen, also his on field attitude and how he carries himself. But he should retire from international cricket, atleast ODIs bcz he is choosing between series, in that way he is not playing most games but also his replacement can't have enough chance or longer run to prove himself as SRT will always be coming back when he wants.

If there is so much passion, he should work for domestic cricket, there would be more and more spectators when he will play a domestic game, and it can work to revive these competitions (obviously I am talking about other than IPL, as it already is on top). This could satisfy SRT passion for the GAME.

There has been a lot of horse shit posted on rec.spot.cricket in the past but this has to rank with the biggest steaming piles.

If he's not good enough then he should be dropped, if he is still good enough then what's the problem. And play for free? What? Why the hell should anyone play for free, even the little cheat. He's done a lot for Indian cricket, been their best or near best player for almost 2 decades and now they want him to drop himself or play for free! Talk about hard to please.

It also sounds like breach of copyright.
"Selfish" has been copyrighted by Sidecast Industries as a prefix to Roger
Waugh.

Please cease and desist, else I shall let slip the lawyers of Waugh.

Tell me, who voluntarily retired when Sachin came in as a 17 year old? He forced his way into the squad on the strength of his performances.

Sachin is probably the best Indian bat today. After the retirement of Dravid the Indian batting is in shambles.

Sehwag and Gambhir are struggling. Dravid is gone, and Laxman will likely follow soon. Kohli is promising but it was only one series ago when he was being written off on this forum for his failures against WI. The 6th spot is up for grabs with Pujara, Rohit and Rahane fighting for it...

Sachin is still the best bat in India by some distance. You could argue that there are 2-3 bats better than him, but 6 bats -- there isn't a chance.

He is good enough to play for India for another 2-3 more years (in Tests at least) on PURE merit. When he can't score, he will go.. He may not be the best bat in the world (he was #1 less than 2 years ago, BTW), but he is still far better than almost anyone else we have... Drop Laxman first and considering axing the non-performing Sehwag well before you bring SRT's name up...

Bharat [the sad fact is that all of VVSL, Sehwag and Gambhir will feast on home cooking the next several months before laying an egg on our away tours starting Dec 2013 -- or maybe that's when they will conveniently retire.. Our schedule:
Jul-Aug 12: @SL (3T)
Sept 12: NZ (2T)
Nov-Dec 12: Eng (4T)
Feb-Mar 13: Aus (4T)
Nov-Dec 13: @RSA (3T)
Feb-Mar 14: @NZ (3T)
Jul-Aug 14: @Eng (5T)
Oct-Nov 14: WI (3T)
Dec-Jan 15: @Aus (4T)
)

There is no fight - out of these 3 Pujara is clearly the best test
player, Rahane is clearly the best ODI player and Rohit Sharma is
clearly the best T20 player. None of the 3 seem to fit in the other
forms of the game other than the ones they are good at.

Sharma is alright for ODIs played in the subcontinent, but anywhere
outside he mostly sucks.

Neither Sharma nor Rahane has played Tests, so who the heck knows what they will do. Pujara has one very good knock and has shown some courage in RSA. But while he's ahead, it wouldn't shock me if either of the others had a better Test career when all is said and done (and don't forget Pujara has shown a distressing tendency to pick up debilitating injuries)...

Sure. I am just expressing my opinion based on watching them play.

The biggest problem for India with regards to tests is that with next
year more being played at home, 2 or more home bullies will firmly
establish themselves in the test team and it will take 2 more years
before they are let go. We have wasted 7-8 years on Yuvraj and a couple
of years on Raina. We will probably be wasting 3-4 years on more on them
or other flat track bullies.

Looks like Pujara and Rahane have been picked for the Test squad.
Unfortunately Raina has also been picked. But I am happy that Yuvraj and
Rohit haven't been picked.

Good article. It tells us that SRT has missed two series since the
CWC. It doesn't say how many there have been, and it doesn't mention
that he missed one because of injury.

How much is SRT worth to Indian cricket. What's the likelihood that
the ODI team won't get sponsorship, or sponsorship at the current
rate, if SRT is not a contracted player?
