The Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India (ACSSI)
was founded in 1987. The President was Anandji Dossa, Vice-President
Sudhir Vaidya, Hon. Secretary Dr. Vasant Naik and Treasurer Marcus
Couto. There was a committee of three members and three co-opted
members. The two main purposes of the Association was to correct all
statistics pertaining to Indian cricket and to improve the standard
of scoring throughout India. A newsletter, which turned into a
Journal after a couple of issues, is produced four times a year.
All cricket associations seem to have a period of extreme upheaval
and the ACSSI was no exception. For a period of some two years in the
early nineties, hardly anything was produced by the association and
membership fell to an all-time low. Happily they have recovered and
are again functioning properly with a revised committee. Anandji
Dossa is still the President but the joint Vice-Presidents are now
Dr. Vasant Naik and Vasant Raiji. The Hon. Treasurer is Shirish
Konkar and the Hon. Secretary is Theodore Braganza who is also the
proprietor of the Marine Sports bookshop in Bombay. The editorship of
the Journal has been taken over by Marcus Couto.
Perhaps their greatest feat at present is to hold regular workshops
throughout the country where scorers take a course and sit an examination.
