Aslam, those Colts are looking pretty good right now!

Last week it was said that Strauss was the first to score 100 in his
debut Test against his first 3 opponents, can you confirm that?

Phil.

Yes he is.

Very few have scored 100s on debut against three separate countries.

KC Sangakkara SL 4
MA Taylor AUS 4
KC Wessels ... 4 ( AUS 2 & SA 2) [1]

KF Barrington ENG 3
DCS Compton ENG 3
JP Crawley ENG 3
AJ Strauss ENG 3
CD McMillan NZ 3
SM Gavaskar IND 3
Zaheer Abbas PAK 3
PA de Silva SL 3

The only other one on that list who scored a century on his Test debut was
Kepler Wessels. He added a second on his debut vs. Sri Lanka, but failed to
do so on his debut vs. West Indies.

1. Wessels managed to score a century on debut vs. England twice, once for
Australia and once for South Africa.

Three others should be added to the list of batsmen who have scored
centuries in their first Test against three different opponent.

V Sehwag (for Ind against SAf, WI and Pak)
GC Smith (for SAf against BD, Eng and WI)
SR Waugh (for Aus against SAf, Zim and BD)

Also, I can find only two such instances for Crawley (against Zim and
SL).

The third was against India, of course :) (Lord's 2002)

Thanks Aslam, in Strauss's case of course it's also his first three Test
series.

Thanks Aslam. I probably should have mentioned that I used Wisden 2003 to
build my list and that was only up to Sep 2002. Wisden have now stopped
including that data.

As Mark posted, it was at Lord's in 2002 vs. India.
