Taken from an old article in Sportstar.
Sidhu on R S Ghai:-

>We also had a similar bowler but treated him shabbily. Rajinder Singh
>Ghai was the quickest Indian bowler I have ever faced.
>He was quicker than Srinath and Kapil Dev.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When I was in India, my company gave a written quotation to a customer
for a HW and SW solution. Fearing price-gouging, he called us for a
meeting and discuss verbally about the quote. We were warned of his
foul language and very soon we got a glimpse of it when he rejected our
quotation "abbe, likhne ko kya hain %^&*, kuch bhee likh do".
--------------------------------------------------
[ translation for hindi imparied: what is there to write. U can write
anything ]

I am reminded of him when I read Sidhu's claim that Ghai was
quicker than Srinath.

>I remember how, with sheer speed, he once dismissed a strong
>opposition in university cricket for a mere 30 runs. He was open
>chested and could put the fear in the batsman. I have seen terrified
>batsmen in university cricket, terrified by Ghai's speed.

this only proves how crap Punjab univ players are.

>When he was making an impression in his formative years, I remember
>how Ghai once rattled Chetan Chauhan, the bat flying out of his hands.
>Ghai took six wickets in that match against Delhi and I vividly
>remember the opposition talking of his speed.

to put it succintly- tell it to birds.

>Ghai was never the same bowler even though he played for India in
>later years.

very smart way of saving ur ass bcos we can easily verify this.
The ghai we saw in 1984-86 was an unmitigated disaster. It is
very difficult to believe that he was ever a quick bowler,
much less a decent bowler.

Ghai was the second slowest among all the "pacers" who practised in the nets
at Jalandhar. Sidhu found him to be the fastest because he didn't have the
guts to face the faster ones.

Ask Gordon Greenidge who was the fastest bowler he faced in the nets in
Jalandhar before the match against North Zone. It wasn't Malcolm Marshall.

Yes I remember. Some guy with a turban was bowling along with
Marshall and I can vouch that he was not only faster (slightly faster)
than Marshall, but also more accurate. Wonder where he disappeared.
Never saw him playing for India.

regards.
Gordon Greenidge.
PS: Oops, I forgot to mention. Due to injury to his right hand,
Marshall was bowling left arm in the nets.

This is what Cricinfo has to say about Rajinder Singh Ghai. I dont believe lot
of things sidhu says.. he always pimp for punjabi players.

"Of medium height and build, Rajinder Singh Ghai was one of several new ball
bowlers tried out to supplement the seam attack in the mid eighties when the
one day game became fashionable in India following the World Cup triumph. A
willingness to work hard and the ability to move the ball appreciably helped
Ghai to make the grade, but he found his lack of pace and and his slight build
a handicap and never could really succeed at the international level."

Exactly. As a matter of principle I just don't believe any
claims by punjabis about fast bowlers in Punjab. All of them
are crap, even by Indian standards. The trouble with them
is that everyone to believe that they are great in sports.

Just FYI: these days (well, until a year or 2 ago, anyways) RS Ghai lives
in San Diego and plays occasionally in the Southern Calif. Cricket Assoc.
league. He has bloated into a huge, fat guy. Was reminded of this when I
read his CricInfo profile which talked of his "slight" build.

Ghai was one of the slower bowlers in Jalandhar.

Exactly how many of the above are fast bowlers. Remember this
thread is about punjabi fast bowlers.
The answer is same as ur IQ: ZILCH.

Its a different matter, barring Bedi none of them can be
called as great in their field, at least not yet in case of
Harbhajan or Sharandeep.
