and in New York the inane people on T.V. are blabbing on about how
they (the Yankees) are the most successful team in sports history.
That's nonsense, of course. The honor would appear to belong to
Bombay/Mumbai who have won roughly half the available Ranji
trophies. What are the records in other countries? Have there been
similarly dominant teams in the English county championship, the
old Sheffield Shield, etc.? I could look this up, but, hey, I'm on
RSC
and, by definition, lazy.

Rangers Football Club springs to mind. They have won the Scottish
championship 52 times. Mind you, Celtic have also won it 42 times which
gives some insight into the two-horsed nature of that competition.

the 70s-90s:
1971, 1973, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1989,
1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996
93 Randwick players have played for the Wallabies, 9 as captain.
IIRC Auckland Rugby Club in NZ had a similar run.
