That has got to be the fastest spell ever by an Indian fast bowler. I
have seen fast bowlers of the past in the Indian team maybe average
140 or 141 maybe even 142 kph in thier entire spell. But I have never
seen an Indian fast bowler even average 144 kph (90 mph). Yadav
averaged 148 kph in his entire spell of about 5 overs or so. He bowled
over 150 kph on a few occassions and I believe his fastest delivery
was 151.5 kph.

Always good to hear good things about Umesh. About fastest spell ever,
we can't really be sure. Srinath around 97 was very fast. When we
toured RSA, their team conceded that he was almost as fast as Donald
was at times. I saw the entire series, but the feed did not have
speeds, so just going by evidence of the eye. He looked like he was
above 90 a lot of the time. Also remember he was bowling long spells
and kept it really quick throughout. Srinath in that series was an
absolute class act. The poor guy also had to watch a lot of his
induced edges put down in slips. He was getting a lot of inward
movement too with the new ball.

I saw Srinath at his peak. I doubt whether he consistently bowled over
140 kph. He was consistently bowling at 135 to 140 kph max. Maybe he
at a few times bowled deliveries that were around 140 to 145 kph. But
that was not the norm. His fastest deliveries might have maybe touched
145 to maybe even a couple of kilometers more. But on average he was
more a 135 to 136 kph bowler. I doubt whether he ever bowled a full 5
or 6 over spell where he averaged 140 kph. Maybe he might have in his
early days just managed a spell touching 140 kph on average. (That is
his average speed where he might have bowled balls over 140 kph). But
his average was never beyond 140 kph. Even Munaf Patel probably never
bowled an entire spell where he averaged over 145 kph. This was Munaf
at his peak. And although Ashish Nehra has bowled the occassional
delivery at 149 kph I doubt whether any spell of his ever averaged
more than 140 or 142 kph max.

I have never seen any Indian bowler even average 144 kph in any 5 over
spell. That is an average speed of about 90 mph over a 5 over spell.
And Umesh Yadav went 4 kmh faster than that and averaged 148 kph in
that spell. It was IMHO the fastest spell by any Indian bowler that I
have ever seen and I have seen a lot of cricket played by India over
the last 15 to 20 years where speeds where shown on tv. I am not
neccessarily saying it was the best spell of fast bowling by an Indian
fast bowler. Just the fastest ever bowled. :)
