is it in his contract that the umpires will give him one life in every
innings? what a way to pad your record. not too much integrity in this
piece of work.

34.2 Bravo to Symonds, no run, what's this now? Bravo slips in another
short one down leg stump, Symonds shapes to half-leave, half-tickle it
fine and the ball clips the inside of his glove before Ramdin takes a
good catch down the leg side, they all ask the question but umpire
Benson is unmoved ... oh ho ho, replays show ball did indeed make
contact with the gloves, and Symonds stands his ground, much to the
crowd's displeasure, so West Indies can feel hard done

Isnt umpire Mark Benson the same idiot who made so many horrendous
decisions against India not to mention taking Pontings ADVICE before
declaring an Indian batsman out in the last India vs Aus test series ?

But our western worshipping resident Indian slaves like Geico Caveman
will only attack a black umpire Steve Bucknor for incompetence as usual.

yup, same gentleman. symonds's career average should be half of what
it is as he is out twice at least each time he steps out to bat.

I think he was either out only once in each of these innings or maybe not

If you must know, I'm English. I've never heartfully supported Oz in
any sport. If I do, it's because the other team must really, really,
really suck - like they just killed 100 kittens or so.

I do enjoy, however, defending ANYONE against the almost constant crap
posted in RSC. That includes Roy, and it included Murali.

Saying Symonds had an obligation to walk or even tell the truth when
asked is, I believe, simply wrong. It's professional sport, they are
paid to win. On the other hand, I much more enjoy it when a batsmen
CHOOSES to walk.

i have not said he had any obligation to walk. i am saying (very
slowly) a) that he benefits from umpiring bloopers with great
frequency ( see cozier on cricinfo:
http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/wivaus/content/current/story/354618.html)
and b) he gestures to the umpire often that he is not out when he must
know he is and that is pretty poor sportsmanship.

Y'know the same thing happened in Antigua, again with Benson. There
is no way Benson can be this bad, this has to be deliberate.

Perhaps this is the affirmative action for Symonds?

if you have to walk when you glove the ball do all players do it or does
this rule only apply to Australians. If given out when they have not touched
the ball are they allowed to stay. Players should take the bad decisions
which benefit them or disadvantage them with the same grace.

yes I have seen the incident in question. So what? it is no different to a

How many tests / innings has he played ?

"out twice at least each time he steps out to bat"

So you mention a couple of innings but you said "each time "

I've never said that sledging or aggressive appealing is solely
confined to Australian cricketers, plenty of other teams do it too.
But whenever I point out an instance of Australia doing it, you deny
it occured, yet you're always quick to bleat if you feel someone has
done it to Australia.
As for Bodyline, that was a massive beat up

The problem is that it's this continual blind defence of anything any
Australian player does.

Symonds quite clearly gloved it, and then quite clearly gestured that
he didn't touch.

Then we have the Australian view put forward that there's no way that
Symonds would have known whether he touched it or not, which strikes
me as a load of bulldust. The chances would have to be 90% or more in
favour that he *did* know he touched it.

If you're going to mount arguments in his defence, at least make them
credible.

And as for the 'no different to a wicketkeeper appealing for a legside
catch', well, if that really *is* your view, then perhaps you should
refrain from labelling opponents as cheats when they do this sort of
thing against Australia.

Harby wasn't exactly shy over appealing in the recent series in
Australia, and you and several other Aus posters went into meltdown
over his antics.
If you don't have a problem with players who don't walk/appeal for
catches, why do you only criticise non-Australians for doing it?

same
b) don't bring in ridiculous arguments about there being no way

The other/ie yours (probably) and mine (certainly)/ie cricket fans pov
is of course that Symonds is an f***ing cheat!

There's a huge diff between not walking on close bat/pad or close to
ground catch decisions (Ump/3rd Ump are there for those, along with
run out and stumpings) and not walking on clear hit and catch
decisions.

As I said Symonds is an f***ing cheat and this Aussie cannot stand the
prick!!!

That international umps are SO BAD as to let him build up a decent
Test ave is a shame for the game.
(And for Mr ave 34 Katich to have a decent Test series is a shame for
the Windies!)

I agree there's a huge difference, but I don't think it's a fair
comparison. In one example you're expecting the player to do the
umpiring, and in the other you're letting the umpire do the umpiring.

It shouldn't be up to players to umpire. Even if they know they've hit
or missed it.

I don't think a professional player should be expected to walk.

On the other hand, I DO think it's cheating when they say "no, i
didn't hit it" (or gesture as such, as Symonds did in this case). That
is effectively lying, and therefore cheating.

That's refreshing to hear.

I had become conditioned to hear Australian posters here defend
absolutely anything by an Australian player (drug taking, bribery
etc).

I tend to agree with your PoV.
Symonds is probably entitled, in the current climate, to await the
umpires decision. Well, he wouldn't be Robinson Crusoe. But to
actively try to cheat (oh look, I didn't touch it) does evoke comment.
It just becomes irksome when certain posters here defend that sort of
behaviour (and then claim they are not biased!)
