Where did he go? He just vanished off the internation circuit in 85. He
bowled well in 83-84.

Azeem Hafeez was Pakistan's primary strike bowler for the better part
of two years but his stock took a hit with the emergence of Wasim
Akram and the return to international cricket by Imran Khan. Then
there was the rise to prominence of Saleem Jaffer, another left arm
pace bowler, Aaqib Javed and eventually Waqar Younis. That pushed
Azeem Hafeez further & further into the background and he faded into
oblivion

There was talk that Azeem got burnt out because of the physical and
mental stress of carrying the Pakistani attack on unresponsive wickets
for almost two years. There was also talk about Azeem's inadequacies
with the bat and in the field working against him especially in the
regime of Imran Khan in which everyone, including #11 was responsible
for carrying their weight with the bat and in the field. And last but
not least there were rumors about Azeem's tiffs with Imran Khan over a
number of things; one of them being the adulation Imran lavished upon
Wasim Akram; another being the Karachi-Lahore thing

IMO Azeem, even though quite fast (Azeem broke John Wright's helmet
with a vicious bouncer on a fairly docile Niaz Stadium Hyderabad
track) did not have the kind of control and variety that one would
associate with very good to elite pace bowlers. Plus he was not into
caring for his body and got fit by playing cricket - he also had a
tendency to put on weight if he was not careful - that may very well
have been a reason for his early burnout and/or the apparent lack of
respect shown by Imran Khan towards him. He had an ego (some people
say chip on his shoulder because he was handicapped) to boot and
unlike guys like Wasim, Aaqib, and Waqar who worshipped the ground
Imran walked on, he could not bring himself to do anything Imran
wanted

Last I heard he was looking to migrate to Canada. Not sure if it
happend

Cheers

*** I don't really care to opine as to what happened to Azeem Hafeez.
And I'm not going to say it is illustrative of how Pakistanis treat
their own ,and in effect demonstrate what their values are. However,
Pakistan doesn't really offer a whole of a lot to people who serve it
in the long term. Now that's a general observation. It's particularly
true in Cricket. They say there's fire where there's smoke. Maybe
that's not always the case, but this Imran Khan character's been near
a lot of smoke in his time. And Wasim Akram's just happened to run
into a bookie just about every time he got in or out of bed. Not that
I'm saying anything - you know, I'm jus' saying ...

But tru dat. Azeem Hafeez got outmoded. I guess Aaqib Javed did too.
Muhammad Zahid. Ata ...

As I recall, I had pretty much the same issue with Aaqib Javed that I
do with Mohd Sami, a lack of consistent penetrativeness in Tests. But
hey, that really describes Akram his last few seasons! :)

Akram could turn it on like donkey kong whenever he wanted, that's the
feeling I always got watching him. The man was brilliant, without
equal in terms of skill, but seemed bored.

And whatever the hell happened to Qasim Umar?

One word describes what happend to him...."DRUGS"....heard from more
than one person that Qasim Omar's drug binges really got out of
control. That and accusing Imran Khan of being a drug dealer
effectively ended his stint in international cricket

Wasn't he the guy with only 2-3 fingers on his bowling hand? It's
remarkable given that defect that he played any test cricket at all.

Yes, he had 3 fingers on his bowling hand. I watched a fair bit of him on
video. I suspect that he felt that he had made his bones inspite of his
handicap, and when Imran was not around. So when Imran came back to captain
the team, he did not show him the obsequious deference that Imran might have
been used to from other youngsters in the team.

Samarth his bowling hand was normal. His right hand had only like two
fingers....I once met Azeem and stuck my left hand out to shake his
hand - he offered his right hand. The handshake felt weird but I felt
really embarrassed. I am not sure if you noticed this but Waqar Younis
too has a deformity on his non-bowling hand. He has no pinkie

azim hafeez had a great chip on shoulder from his interviews in
sportsworld and yes there was that karachi-lahore thingy also from
what my friends told me and then akram made him redundant...
