I remember A.De Silva hit Kapil Dev for a six the very first ball
of the second innings in a test.
This was the first test series between India and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka,
which Sri Lanka won.

I believe Chetan Chauhan did hit his first ball for a 6.

George Challenor did it for WI v. England about 50 years ago. When asked
about it by a reporter at the end of the 1st day's play, he replied "I
play every ball on its merit."!
Roy Fredericks hooked the 2nd ball of the innings from Lillee for 6 in
his famous 168 in the 2nd Test between WI and Aus. in Aus., 1976. IMO,
that was the worst thrashing ever handed out to Lillee and Thomson in
their careers. It was one of the most memorable individual batting
performances of all time.

Ian Botham Egbaston 1985 v Australia hit his first ball off (I think)
McDermott for 6. He also hit is third for six. He think he finished up
with 18 of 12 balls.

No this match was drawn, SL was chasing a traget of 100+ in an hour (app.) but failed to end the day at 61/4. However they won the following test by
151 runs

Aravinda De Silva hit Kapil Dev first ball for a six in the second
innings in Colombo in the first test in 1984. Sri Lanka were
chasing a target of 126 in 12 overs to win its first test and I
think they made 65 finally.

I seem (!!!) to remember Barry Richards hitting Dennis Lillee for 6 over
long leg first ball of the innings (2nd innings I think) in a WSC
supertest in Sydney in '78/79. I had the impression that it was a top
edge, but Richards was such a sweet timer of the ball that he may have
just flicked it up and over.

I expect people to post articles saying that it was really the second ball
or something like that. It was a long time ago!

Srikanth was one of those batsmen ... came out blasting like nobody's
business. I remember when he was dropped, Gavaskar commented: You can't
teach that guy anything. He plays his own game.

I rather miss him. Never a dull moment with Srikanth at bat.

Hi all,

I didn't see the start of this thread so if I'm barking up the wrong tree you'll have to forgive me.
The only first ball six I can remember is Ian Botham coming in against Australia in 1985 when England were about to declare and hitting Craig McDermott back over his head for six on his first AND third balls.
He then scored a 2 and a 4 and was out for 18. England then carried on for a bit longer so that Gatting could get his 100.

Bye, Mike.

Not on the first ball, but it was a great shot, a brave pull.
The next one was a four thro cover and the third one (a great delivery
from Marshall) knocked off the middle stump.
