Is this true ? .....................
What about Gihan Mendis, I thought he was considerd Sri Lankan, at
least in first few seasons.
And several Sri Lankan players were in University teams, including
Gamini Gunasena & Pathmanadan ? ( I know Oxford and Cambridge
are not in the first class county list after 1993, but these guys were
there in 60's and 70's)

can anyone confirm this..

Yes. Gamini Goonasena played for Cambridge and Gajan Pathmanathan
played for Oxford. I also think that in the 60s, Clive Inman played
for Leicestershire. He has played for the then Ceylon team in
unofficial tests against Pakistan, and may be India under Mike
Tissera.

As for Gehan Mendis, I thought he was vying for England team.

There has been no change in the status of Oxford and Cambridge, who
still play some first-class matches against the counties.

Yes, and Stan Jayasinghe also played for Leicestershire in the 1960s.
Either the Kent official is comparatively young, has a short memory, or
doesn't realist that Ceylon and Sri Lanka are one and the same.

Yes, presumably because Sri Lanka didn't play Test cricket at the time
he started his county career.

Aravinda will be the first SL to play since the concept of Overseas players
was introduced in 70s.
