i thought that bedi and sunny never got along very well because when
gavaskar was captain the team was full of bombay players and when bedi
was captain the team was full of delhi players.
rg
M:: I remember reading this in a book by Gavaskar (The Idols??). Can
someone confirm?

That may have been true (Bedi's letter to the press signed as "Manager,
Indian Cricket Team" railing at SMG for not accepting the MCC membership
is well known). However, Bedi did name his son Gavasinder singh - the
son was born during one of the test matches in the Windies where SMG
made a century.

Bad form I know, to clarify my own post and deny others the pleasure of
corrections etc. Still, just wanted to clarify that this was in SMG's
debut series. Perhaps even his debut ton. I remember reading that he
felt extremely honoured by Bedi's gesture to such a junior up-and-coming
player like himself. In any case, SMG did have Bedi in "Idols".

No, not yet :) Gavaskar did indeed name his son 'Rohan Jaivishwa',
but it is unusual among Marathi people to use two names. The
tradition is to use your father's first name as your middle name;
thus Rohan is listed as RS Gavaskar, but he has this "second name"
Jaivishwa. Personally I think it's a crazy idea to name your son
after someone prominent :) Bedi must nowadays be rather reticent to
introduce his son to people :)
>Of course, if it is "RJS Gavaskar"..."RJS" are famous initials in Bombay :-).
Really? I can't think of anyone else with those initials... who are
you referring to? :)
