With that and Steve Davis injuring himself climbing over the fence,
Australian attempts to mimic NZ behaviour (presumably out of jealousy or
sheer admiration) know almost no bounds. However it stills need a little
refinement: this sort of accident needs to happen to key players, such as
McGrath, before we'll really take you seriously.

Run over by a steamroller. Those things can have a nasty effect on your
bowling career.
Moby.
Are flat-footed bowlers any better than ballet-steppers?
Cheers, ymt.

Not a bad call on my part, but still a bit unspectacular for me. Now if
Gillespie had injured himself in the process of flapping his arms whilst
running in to bowl, we might have something.
Andrew
Alvey was right: Gillespie looked a complete tit.
It wasn't his foot that was run over by the steamroller, it was his chest!
Spent some time in hospital with serious injuries and missed the following
cricket season (98/99). Returned to Victoria in 99/00 and then back to NSW
in 2000/01 where he was very much a fringe player in the state side.
Returned once again to Victoria this season where he is playing for the
Melbourne club in the VCA Premier League.
(This is the same Simon Cook who, earlier in his career, suffered a broken
leg while running into to bowl in a Sheffield Shield match.)

Bugger residential qualifications, Cook is over-qualified to get a game with
the Kiwis...
Isn't this so much like that scene from _A Fish Called Wanda_?? "Oh no,
K-k-k-ken's c-c-c-c-oming to k-k-k-k-kill me!"
Cheers,

over by a steam roller, I mean, really! ]

I'd have thought that getting run over by a steamroller (on the chest!) would
mean goodbye world
