ive always been a big fan of technology being introduced to help analyse
cricket -- snickometer, hawkeye and so on have really helped put cream on
the cake for spectators, and in the IPL they've introduced a hit meter that
measures how far 6's are being hit, which I think is another excellent
addition

I'm just wondering what the longest 6 has been so far???

AFAIK The 'hit meter' was introduced at the 2007 T20 World Championship.
The longest six at that tournament was 119 metres by Yuvraj Singh in the
semi-final v Australia; he also recorded a hit of 113 metres against
England.

Ross Taylor hit one 112 metres off Munaf Patel yesterday but I have no idea
whether that is the longest. Don't even know if the technology used to
measure has any basis.

I am more worried about the shorter sixes. A 68m hit by Robin Uthappa
at Mohali on Friday ended up in the crowd. A flick by Adam Gilchrist
off Ajit Agarkar last week travelled 73 metres and landed five or six
rows back in the Eden Gardens.

In the few overs that I watched yesterday, most of the sixes seemed to
be big ones. They may have recaliberated the sixometer.

Minor nitpicks:
1. Albie Morkel
2. who plays for Chennai
3. Ojha plays for the Deccan Chargers
4. My telly displayed 124 metres. Nevertheless it was an amazing hit.

Tendulkar slashed at a wide delivery from Morkel yesterday. It
traveled 57 meters and carried over third man for six. Possibly the
shortest six in this tournament.
