At university age there must be somebody who has been looked at.
They just lost to Ireland u19.David Dawson 83 and James McNeil 56 made
runs for UNSW, they seem to be ahead of the rest.
UNSW 235 all out in 47 overs, (D Dawson 83, J McNeil 56, S Getkake
4-46, E Richardson 2-30, J Coghlan 1-33, P Stirling 1-41, L Nelson
1-46) lost to Ireland U19 236-9 in 49 overs (J Shannon 77, P Stirling
72, G McDonnell 37, A D'Arcy 20 not out).

It's very difficult to judge any amateur team in early January. The players
turning out are generally only those who weren't able to organise a holiday
trip away.

What I find and it might not be applicable in Oz, is that if talented
young players are chosen and brought into the system, they stay there
until they either need a real job, or in the case of Morgan, Joyce and
the other 14 or so get county cricket contracts in England. There are
no pro competitions in Ireland, even the senior national side only has
two contracted and paid players. So talented school boy players can
turn very quickly (over winter) into talented ex players or worse -
rugby players. Or work all week and cricket on the weekend. While
still retaining a high standard for a Saturday afternoon cricket, the
notion of national selection soon leaves them.

They fared better than the "grade" XI that Ireland U19 played against,
and they done better thanthe Afghani U19 who got tanked. West Indies
U19 tomorrow, that might have some more talent on show. Then it's the
comp for real.
