I saw on someone's post of a recent fight card in New Jersey that Joe
Gatti was scheduled to make a return to boxing (as a light heavyweight
I think) after a layoff of about 4 years. Does anyone know any more
about this or have the results?

Murray's quick KO turns into a Treat
By Chris Thorne Newark Star-Ledger STAFF WRITER 10/02/98
Charles Murray isn't known as a knockout artist.
Don't tell that to Rick Edson.
Murray, the former IBF junior welterweight champion, fired a right hand to
Edson's body, sending him to the canvas, to record his first opening-round
knockout since 1990 last night during an 11-fight card at the Robert Treat
Hotel in Newark.
Edson was counted out by referee Benji Estevez at 2:01, raising Murray's record
to 41-5. To add insult to injury, Edson was still looking for his paycheck long
after most of the crowd of 1,500 had departed.
The talk now centers around a fight between Murray and good friend Michael
Covington, who extended his record to 17-0 last night with a six-round decision
over a tough Robert Muhammad.
Covington, a Trenton native, was dominant and stayed patient in his victory
over Muhammad, who took all of Covington's best shots.
"I took my time and I was in control of the fight all the way," Covington said.

Covington isn't sure about facing Murray on the next Robert Treat card on Dec.
18 (possibly on ESPN), but putting that fight on might be the key to securing a
date on the cable network. It would also garner both fighters a much better
purse than they received last night.
"Michael and I aren't fighting," said Murray. "That's all I know. We're good
friends going in different directions."
The man who stole the show last night, however, was Joe Gatti. The former
middleweight contender, now a light heavyweight, fought for the first time in
two years, knocking out Kelvin Prather with a rousing right uppercut at 2:57 of
the second round.
Gatti, the older brother of former IBF junior lightweight champion Arturo
Gatti, missed with a left hook, but landed the right hand directly on Prather's
chin and down he went.
"It feels a lot better at this weight," said Gatti, now 27-5. "I worked hard
for this one and it feels good to be back in there."
Dan Musico brought nearly 400 fans to the house and finished off Gerald Holmes
of Rahway in a mere 51 seconds to retain his IBC Intercontinental super
middleweight crown. It was Musico's 11th victory and 11th KO.
The Nutley native landed a right body shot that had Holmes falling back to the
canvas. Holmes had to leave for further medical observation after slamming his
head against the canvas.
Another Treat favorite, heavyweight Leo Loiacono, went the full six rounds
against Kimmuel Odum, registering his 16th victory in a decision. Odum has been
in with Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe and Ray Mercer, among others, and is one tough
nut to crack.
Loiacono is lobbying for a Tyson fight should the former undisputed champion
get his license back.
There were many others who picked up victories last night, including Newark's
Maurice Harris, who crushed Philadelphia's Orion Sistrunk at 1:57 of the
opening round with a riveting left hook the body.
Another Newark heavyweight, Farouq Saleem, raised his mark to 6-0 with a TKO of
Todd Walker of Rahway at 1:05 of the second round, sending Walker on his
backside once in each round.
The four-round battle of Plainfield in the junior middleweight division went to
Robert Kamya over Brandon LoPresti in a majority decision.

Thanks for the info guys, but I see there's some disagreement over
Gatti's fight record.
