i won't name them out of respect for the non British in the newsgroup but
when u mention Funso Banjo i had to laugh.
Well i think we have moved in the right direction since those days and guys
like Lewis and Bruno have put some pride back into Britsh Heavyweight boxing
but gee i can remember the wilderness years when we had nothing to wrote
home about.
maybe some of you remember differently?
but who was the worst 'next heavyweight star' that the press got behind ?
Gaz
Damn ! You beat me to the Scouse Grunter. I'm trying to remember exactly
why it was that Quarless suddenly became a TV boxer : was it something to do
with the BBC having lost the media rights or something? I seem to remember
he decked someone he oughtn't to have been able to, and then he was on telly
every few months, looking less and less impressive each time. He struggled
to beat that Welsh guy who didn't look big enough to be a heavy........
Morgan?
Funso Banjo - credit where it's due, he did try to pioneer an all-new style
: one where you put about eight yards of leading leg between you and your
opponent, and then lean even further away from him. If he'd only had an
eight-and-a-half yard reach then he could've been a contender. Sadly, he
didn't, so we were treated to a couple of fights where there were less
punches thrown than you'd expect to find at a carboot sale.
Anyway................ COUGH richard dunn coughcough
Cheers AF
man u guys kill me, what dark days they were.
