A forgotten fact is that Larry was a Joe Frazier sparring
partner prior to Ali s/p. He would often complain:
"Joe hurt me."

Hmmm, I wonder . . . Larry Holmes was Joe Frazier's sparring partner?
Are you really, really sure?

I knew Larry sparred w/Ali but Frazier?

One thing I've always appreciated about Holmes was his honesty. BTW I
didn't know he had such bad blood w/Foreman.

Before Larry was convinced to dump Ernie Butler, he most assuredly
worked as a s/p for Joe Frazier.

Indeed before Larry Holmes turned professional he was hired as
sparring partner for Joe Frazier, 1971. He became a professional
boxer, 1973 and was hired as sparring partner for Muhammad Ali,
1973-75 according to Homes' biography.

Thanxx, Steve. And btw, Larry is right: many of us who
saw him fight as an amateur still can't believe what he
accomplished. Then again, we have no alternative but
to believe. The "Easton Assassin"--to be sure.

Speaking of Joe Frazier, I actually saw him when he came to our fair city
with Bert Cooper to fight Willie deWitt. Never met him but I saw him...

I just saw the full interview on the YES network and Holmes mentioned
that when he was a young contender Don King got him work as Ernie
Shavers' sparring partner. Talk about a brutal job!

Still, there's no doubt that his previous sparring w/Shavers and Ali
aided him immensely when he faced them later.

I saw joe Fraziers when he fought at the Olympic Auditorium in Los
Angeles, CA.

He was very destructive! :)
