John L. Sullivan was married to chorus girl Annie Bates and had a son,
John L. Sullivan, Jr. who died of diptheria at the age of 2. He was
the only child John L. Sullivan had.

John L. divorced Annie in 1908. Between 1885 and 1908 he was living
with burlesque queen, Ann Livingston but they had no children. After
his divorce he married his childhood sweetheart Kate Harkins but they
too had no children.

So no one can be the child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc of John
L. Sullivan. His sister Annie had eight children who grew to
adulthood. So far, their descendants are the closest relatives to the
boxer that have been able to prove it.

He also had a brother Mike. Don't know if he married and had children
or not.

Regards,

Stop in at almost any drinking establishment in the south end of Boston and you'll undoubtedly encounter any number of gents of Irish descent who claim a blood bond to the great John L. Sullivan. (:

John L. was a few weeks shy of 44th birthday when he lost title to Corbett; without that fight would have been undefeated with three draws.

Yes, wikipedia is not the be-all and end-all of "research". I would go
to what we use to call a "librarly". It's a building that houses many
records that aren't available in wikipedia.

My grandmother is Johns great (I don't know how many greats) niece. She's 55 and her name is Anne Certain.

John L. Sullivan was born 10/15/1858. His last match against Jim Corbett was 09/07/1892, making him a month short of being 34 years old. His final record was Won 38 (KO 32)/Lost 1 (KO 1)/Draw 1. His lone draw was a six-round contest versus Canadian Patsy Cardiff on 01/05/1887 before 10,000 fams at the Washington Roller Rink in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sullivan broke his arm in the first round.

so according to my mother, he's my great grandmother's relative. She was his cousin I believe.

So my mother told me he's her grandmother's cousin. My great grandmother, but when I went searching it was said that Catherine and Michael, his parents were my great grandmother's grandparents but I've been trying to figure out her parents, since there is zero record of John L having any children, anyone who might be able to help who might have the family tree, my great grandmother's name was Ellen Elizabeth Sullivan, later to become Ellis lived in Boston and she died Jan of 1910. Thanks for any information in advance :)

Hi I have been told that John L. Sullivan was my great great grandfather, my daddy's great grandfather. My great grandmother was Bessie Sullivan Hyche. I would be interested in knowing if he was my great grandmother's father.
