³Good Mexican Heavyweight² might sound like an oxymoron, but the late
Manuel Ramos was good enough to reach a number 4 ranking among world
Heavyweights. After a slow start, Ramos cracked off 15 straight wins to
earn a shot at Joe Frazier¹s piece of the World Heavyweight title.

Career record: 26-25-3 (19).
*1. Ramos dropped twice in the 2nd round.
*2. Norling cut due to an accidental headbutt. Norling ahead on the
scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
*3. The fight was interupted in the 2nd round when the referee had a
heart attack and died.
*4. Machen was well ahead on points but ran out of gas and was floored
late in the fight to give Ramos a split decision win.
*5. Ramos administered such a beating that Terrell, the former WBA
champion, retired after the fight...temporarily.
*6. Ramos got Frazier¹s attention early with some good right hands, but
Frazier sucked it up, discovered Ramos was open to a left hook and fired
away dropping the Mexican once in each round. Ramos retired at the end
of round 2.
*7. Ramos showed nothing as Chuvalo destroyed him. Ringside reporters
were less than kind, ³...cannot box, cannot hit with power, a badly
turned out specimen.²
