But on the other hand, boxing has kept a lot of (potential) criminals off
the streets to various degrees.

Yes, this is the case for boxing a lot of people make. And I think it
is true in most cases! But for sure, not even boxing can save
everyone. I read somewhere that the elder Boston-bomber was a boxer in
Russia (?), but wasn't allowed to enter a boxing gym in Boston (?)
because he was too arrogant. Usually I don't like to speculate, but
one has to think that it would have been a lot better if he'd been in
the gym punching away frustration, than to hang with those
Islamist-goofballs' society for marginalized and desperate people.
