Lennox Lewis could end up fighting Buster Douglas instead of Evander
Holyfield early next spring.
Does anybody think that Douglas has a chance against Lewis?
I can't wait to see the odds on this one!
Chico
"CHICO YOU'RE THE MOST FAMOUS WRITER IN THIS THING" -pkowal1104
No. He stands no chance. Douglas is an old fighter - he looks and he boxes
like an old fighter. he has nowhere near the physical shape required to pose a
threat to someone like Lewis these days. Douglas is all soft an flabby. I am
not saying fighters have to look like bodybuilders, not at all, but Douglas is
too far gone, he just faded too much and at his age he will not be able to get
into top-competitive shape again.
And if he didn't have the grit to properly defend his title for a 20-something
million $ purse, I wonder what makes anyone assume he'll be killing himself in
training for a lesser fight - he won't. Douglas is not even the fighter that
got into the ring against Holyfield (and got knocked down in 3, and didn't
have the guts to get his butt up), so this will be a blow-out. Anytime Lewis
chooses to get him out of there, he'll be out.
I just think that fighters that walk into the ring to give performances that
are as disappointing and disgraceful as Seldon (against Tyson) or Douglas
(against Holyfield) or Tyson (against Holyfield II) or Akinwande (against
Lewis) should be given hell before they get another chance. I have more
respect for McCall - yeah, he had a huge substance problem, but he was there
to face the conferences and was inviting the knockout in what I thought was a
sad display of desperate, if ill-advised, courage. They should be forced to
fight top contenders for 2 years and redeem themselves. Not just get a shot
after facing nobodies - we've seen where that leads.
Lewis KO2 Douglas
I'd rather see a match against Witherspoon (who'd be properly motivated for
this one) or a rematch against Mercer, or see Lewis against Larry Donald
(which culd be a snoozer) or Herbie Hide (don't laugh, the guy is looking good
these days).

Douglas is a joke. If Lewis can't take him out in 1 or 2 . . . .
Ivan Weiss Even a blind pig finds
Vashon WA an acorn once in a while
just another joke in the line that Lennox has fought already.
Does he own stock in CAMPBELLS????

agree.
Douglas has no chance.

I won a ton of $$$ on that fight, and I'll put a big chunk on Douglas
too if the odds are right (at least 13-1).
If you think you can compare them, your logic is outta whack... Holyfield
never got out of the sport and allowed his phsyical condition to worsen to the
point where he fell into a friggin' *coma*, for Christ sake. Holyfield never
abused his system like that. Nor did Holyfield ever look as bad as Douglas has
in his comeback. Holfield against Czyz wasn't a pretty sight, but Czyz is
still leagues about LaRosa and the other frauds Douglas has looked less than
impressive against.
The comparison is, thus, ridiculous.

You go ahead. Bet the kids' college fund. Just don't cry afterwards.
Douglas doesn't stand the shadow of a chance.

Right, Ed, what a story it would make. But don't bet the farm on it.
Paul-
When I saw that Monaco fight,it sure looked to me like
it was the same old Buster. The "New" Buster is the same as
the "Old" Buster.Scratch the surface and dig deep.......and
you won't find a heart. If this fight takes place, look for Buster
to give his usual Half A** effort like he always has when he's
dealt a big hand to play.Other than one night in Toyko,he's
never missed a chance to let us down.

Douglas is all wrong for Lewis. These odds are going to be real close if
it happens. If you see even 6-1 against Douglas, I suggest slapping down
a fat wad of cash. I might even ask you to put some down for me; maybe
work out details later.

This is a really close fight. Douglas is all wrong for Lewis. Lewis will
go after Briggs anyway IMV.

I think you are wrong. Douglas KO 10 over Lewis.

Comment driven by Douglas' 1990 victory over Mike Tyson. Oh, the 1990
victory and typical idiocy.

Herb Lambeck, Las Vegas oddsmaker, has the fight tentatively at 100-1.
Need I say who's favored?

Yeah, right! I'll put $10K down on Douglas for you and MAYBE we can
work out the details later. Maybe we won't work out the details later?

Then, after Douglas knocks out Lewis, I want to see Douglas-Holyfield
II. Redemption Day!! Thanks for not letting me down knave. I figured
we could count on a post like this from you. But, is Douglas really old
enough to beat Lewis?
The Sanity Cruzer
Holyfield even
Tyson 7-5
Briggs 10-1
Douglas 15-1
If I were a bookmaker I'd open with these odds and adjust them
accordingly (as the $$$ came in).
know if Tyson was ever an underdog in his career? Maybe Spinks but I
dought it.
Even in the second Holyfield fight he was a bettors favorite. & if he
never was
an underdog what fights did he have had the closest odds?

Clint, a bookmakers ONLY goal is to make $$$$. They set odds based upon how they
think that the public will bet.
Based on Tyson's last 2 perfomances and Lewis' KO of Golota- I think that making
Lewis a 7-5 favorite sounds about right.

Your betting shop would go broke right away. :-)

You balls-less netstalking loser. You've been following up my posts with
your stupid off-topic putdowns for 6 months now.
I used to think you were a balls-less netstalking loser who would go away
if I ignored him long enough, but I was wrong. You're a balls-less
netstalking loser WITH ABSOLUTELY NO LIFE AT ALL who will be following me
up with stupid off-topic putdowns for as long as I post here to the many
people who enjoy my posts.
I've come to view it philosophically; this is my Usenet penance. I
haven't lived my life as well as I should have.
I wish you would stop reading/responding to my posts and go suck up to
those "respected RSB contributors" you imagine are your peers. But you
never will.

The first Holyfield fight - that didn't happen ('91) - was about 2to1 or
3to1. I don't remember a Tyson fight being lower than that.

Well, yeah. You shouldn't post unsupported idiocy and expect not to get
called a moron. Just like a headache is your "penance" for tapping your
head vigourously against big iron things.

Caught a snippet of ESPN commentary on the LEwis-Briggs match
1. Briggs is getting $2m
2. Lewis holds the WBA & IBF titles
3. Briggs holds the lightly regarded WBU title
And the DJ's I was listening to yesterday afternoon were
calling for Holyfield-Foreman II "I'd pay to see him fight the old
fat guy again" and then Holyfield-Tyson III "this time with no
biting."

Lewis is the WBC champion. Evander Holyfield is the WBA/IBF champion.

I know that. I included it to give everyone an idea of the level
of commentary on ESPN. BTW, I'm not sure Briggs has the WBU title.
Didn't Corrie Sanders beat Ross Purrity for it, or was that some
other meaningless collection of letters?
