Looking at online street fights featuring Kimbo Slice, maybe 4 guys
gave him anything resembling a real fight, including the only one I've
seen him lose against the cop Sean Gannon.

Would you attribute his W/L ratio to being up against chumps or is
there more to it than that?

Yeah he's a big bruiser but it seems like hardly anyone really landed
a solid hit on him. I see a lot of big swings that hit nothing but
air. Most of his opponents - even Gannon - end up looking like they've
been hit by a truck but he never seems to look like he's gotten much
abuse. How does he keep getting out of the way of those punches so
consistently?

A guy named Chico tagged him pretty good and actually put him down
briefly, but that seems to have been a rare event. He ultimately won
that fight.

It seems that the guy who gets in the first couple of solid shots ends
up winning, and that guy was usually Kimbo. He might not be one of the
great pugilists of all time but in the street fight world, he seemed
to have something going for him that others didn't.

Thoughts, analysis?

He fights chumps and his skill level is above the level of chump. That's
why he wins so often.

He moves. His opponents generally don't. Any sort of movement is going to
make it difficult for an opponent to land a clean shot. His upper body
travels a fair distance when he's evading punches and he counter-punches
bemused opponents who are still in the process of reaquiring the target,
rather than looking after their defences.

One solid puch usually turns things.

He's better than those he fights.

Didn't see which, that Gannon looked pulverized or that Kimbo didn't
seem to get hit that much?

It looked to me like Kimbo lost not so much because Gannon pounded him
into submission but because he wasn't able to hurt Gannon enough to
put him down relatively quickly and ran out of gas. It was clear he
was utterly exhausted. Toward the end of the fight a 12yo girl could
have beaten him. He used up a lot of energy grappling.

If that guy Chico hadn't been so slow and had capitalized on the
couple of times it looked like he had Kimbo stunned he could have
beaten him too. A white guy named Adryan had him backing up but was
never able to really connect and he too ultimately ran out of gas and
gave Kimbo an easy target.

hes strong, hes trained in boxing.Only gannon was trained in the guys
he fought. So slice lpost only that one.

hes trained boxing as a teen.his bros a pro boxer..

Hes a boxer not a streetfighter.I first saw him fight years ago i said
everywhere"clearly this mans trained boxing, hes not great, but hes
pretty good, it shows clearly specific training in boxing" and sure
enough though he downplays it somewhat as it hurts his rep.He was
known to frequent boxing gyms for years.

hes not a good boxer, just a half ass one, but a halfass boxer beats
guys named chico, tjhough he gets clipped here an there.

I think Chico was something of a boxer, I think actually better than
Kimbo as far as overall skill and struck me as having had the
potential to beat Kimbo but for some mistakes.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=bCh3c5f9O6o

He nails him at 1:29, but inexplicably doesn't go in for the kill. I
think this was his best opportunity to put Kimbo away, but he lets
Kimbo get reset instead of pouncing on him as soon as he's up. He
squanders another opportunity at 1:41 where he gets Kimbo across the
head. Again he just kind of looks at him and doesn't follow up.

I haven't been able to verify this, but I think that "Chico" is a boxer
named Joseph Kenneth Reyes. I've seen him fight a few times here in
Tampa. He is from Homestead, FL and most(if not all) of Kimbo's fights
take place in the Miami area.

Can anyone confirm if that is Joe Reyes?

Can't confirm if Reyes is "Chico." In his record as a
heavyweight fighter, he had 13 bouts, won 3 (2 by KO)
and 10 losses (7 by KO).

I'll see if I have any tapes that have Joe Reyes on them. But I am
pretty sure it is him. Size. No hair. Mannerisms in fighting.
