Michael Katz latest bullshit

Listen folks I have had it up to hear (my hairline) with Michael Katz
stupid Anti-De La Hoya bullshit.

It seems Katz always has something against Oscar. Oscar has proved to
have technique, power, chin, and fighting spirit. If anything can be
faulted in De La Hoya is he's lack of consistency.
But take a look at Katz's latest trash:

"Reason I hear Lucia Rijker left Bob Arum was De La Hoya didn't like her
on his undercards. He didn't mind that testosterone for testosterone,
she might be a better fighter. What irked him, I hear, is he didn't want
any fighter around who was prettier "

Now I know Michael Katz is uglier than Keith Mullings's wife, but still
go grind your axe someplace else will ya Mr. Katz?

And then when Katz started talking about Aaron Pryor (Pryor is
universally recognised as the greatest 140 lbs fighter ever. Pryor sadly
seems to be suffering from pugilistic dementia), Katz went as far as
this:

"Pryor, giving away weight, would have beaten De La Hoya, and Trinidad"

While there's always that possibility, I seriously doubt Pryor could
beat De La Hoya while giving him a 10 lbs weight advantage. Oscar
wouldn't land many on the smallish Pryor, but once that left hook
connected it would put Pryor in a coma, as surely as it knocked down the
much stronger, and powerful Quartey. If Ike couldn't take those shots,
than surely neither could the smaller, and weaker Pryor.

One day Katz is gone wake up, and De La Hoya will be in the Hall of
Fame. By then Katz's only 2 readers will be Ryan Wissow, and Veronica
Peralta, or Katz will probably be writing articles for "High Times"
magazine.

I think the fact that Katz keeps jerking off in the men's room of the
New York Daily News while staring at posters of Lucia Rijker, and Tony
Ayala Jr. is starting to seriously affect is judgement. In short, Mike
Katz go fuck yourself.

Respectfully

Andre Figueiredo

I don't imagine that Katz will mind a whole lot since he's already
written that he doesn't consider Boxing as having a Hall of Fame
anymore(after Arum followed King into the IBHOF).But I agree
with you that he's gone overboard with the "Chicken" De La Hoya
crap.....I'm not a fan of the Golden Boy,but anybody who's faced
Ike Quartey doesn't warrant that monicker anymore.

I was in Vegas for the Holyfield - Douglas fight in 1990 and ran into Katz as
he was getting on the moving sidewalk heading into Caesars.

We made a little small talk about the Douglas fight the night before and I told
him I was from Toronto and asked how he thought Toronto native Razor Ruddock
would do against Tyson, as that fight was scheduled for November 1990 in
Edmonton (it was subsequently postponed under mysterious circumstances when
Tyson claimed he had chest cold or some nonsense like that).

Anyway, he got really rude and obnoxious towards me and said Ruddock would
murder Tyson. He talked derisively about Tyson's skill level (I remember
thinking about how he raved about Tyson on the Mike Tyson's Greatest Hits video
a few short years before) and reiterated that Mike didn't stand a chance
against Razor. I diplomatically offered that I felt Ruddock had a punchers
chance but that he was too one-dimensional to beat Tyson. He worked that ugly
mug of his into a look of complete disdain for me and basically said "what the
fuck do u know??"

As we got to the casino, my brother (who was with me and watching the exchange
with some amusement) watched him waddle off and said loud enough for him to
hear "what an asshole!"

Anyway, turns out that both guys performed well in their two fights (there will
be no mention made here about Richard Steele LOL).

Katz' continued anti-Oscar bias really makes one question his credibility as a
boxing writer. Oscar is a talented fighter worthy of his status as a world
champion and a drawing card. No man who climbs into a boxing ring can be called
a coward and there is no way that anyone who would fight bruisers like Ike
Quartey and Felix Trinidad in the same year can be called a "chicken".

Mike Katz is a very bitter old man. On the two occassions I have met him he was
an ass. He has disdain for anyone who does not agree with him. He firmly
believes that if you were born after 1960 then you dont know shit about boxing
or anything else for that matter. He is a stinky smelly dude that has worn the
SAME cervical collar (the white thing people wear for neck injuries)for the
last 10 years and I dont think he has washed it once. When I saw him at the
Tyson fight in January at the MGM he was eating a few tables over and had more
food caught in his beard than on his plate. He is just a bitter man than nobody
likes and he prefers it that way, he always ate by himself etc.. in the week I
was there I saw him numerous times and he was always alone. He is the poster
boy for every movie that has a grumpy, smelly ugly old man that works at a
newpaper and still refuses to use a computer and lugs around a typewriter. To
be perfectly honest I think his hatred for Delahoya comes from real jealousy.
Oscar is a pretty boy and that chaps that ugly bastards ass.

Who's Veronica Peralta?

Oscar's former girlfriend.

What has she had to say about Oscar?
Is she the other woman he knocked up?

LOL! That was my impression too, without having ever met the guy. What is up
with wearing the neck brace for 10 years?

AFAIK Oscar didn't knock her up, or if he did she had an abortion. She's
pretty prominently mentioned in Tim Kawakami's book "Golden Boy."
Kawakami's story (and Peralta's) is that she and Oscar had a good thing
going but his father broke it up. That's all I know about it. Maybe
someone from the LA area can help.

She used to date Oscar for a long time, untill
Mike Hernandez, and the rest convinced Oscar to
get rid of her.

It's all right there on Tim Kawamaki's biography
of Oscar.
