George Foreman KO'd once

I thought this was very interesting so i'll share it with you guys, George
Foreman was only KO'd once in his 81 fight career by none other than
Muhammad Ali. You might say "o my god you didn't even know that" but im a
newish fan of boxing about 3 years now.

Gene Tunney was only knocked down once in his career of 83 fights and that
was by Jack Dempsey in the "Battle of the Long Count"! In fact, no
heavyweight champion got through an entire career without hitting the
canvas. Tunney is the leader with one time, Marciano with two, and some,
like Joe Louis went down a lot (10 times for Louis).

Actually, a severely emaciated Foreman suffered his second career
stoppage at the hands of the great Roy Jones, when Big George dropped
down three weight classes to fight Roy at super middle. In the months
leading up to that epic battle, Foreman was contractually obligated to
fight for and win all existing versions of the cruiserweight title while
Roy raised roosters, shot hoops and worked on perfecting his ring
entrance.

Tyson has some extremely sturdy legs, as he's only hit the canvas twice in
his career, and only one of those, against Douglas, was a "true" knockdown.
Holyfield knocked Tyson down by punching him in the shoulder when he was off
balance, more of a pushdown than a knockdown, of course the ref saved Tyson
from another Douglas like knockout late in the fight.

what about oliver mccall? although he wasn't a great champion by any means, he
did hold the wbc title....and to my knowledge, has never gone down in a fight
(only time i ever saw him hurt was early in the frank bruno fight, after which
he fought very defensively and ended up losing the decision to big frank).

What about Sonny Liston and Jack Dempsey? How many times did they hit the mat?

aside from the farce of a fight with cassius clay, i think liston was knocked
down once (in that last fight where he was ko'd...don't know if it was a ref
stoppage, or a legit knockdown ko).

dempsey had been knocked down at least once or twice. there's the firpo fight,
for instance.

Liston went down at least twice, vs Ali and Leotis Martin. I can't find my
book with the listing of how many times various champions went down right
now.
Dempsey went down to a KO to Firemen Jim Flynn and twice Firpo knocked him
down, once through the ropes, so there's at least three for Jack.

The Jones-Foreman bout took place in a trunk on a bunk on a junk in the
middle of the China Sea. Newsreel footage of the fight has long been

I have it on good authority that the footage wasn't actually suppressed.
Apparently, the cameraman used film so rare that neither he nor anyone else
in the known world has equipment to play it back. It's rumored that it might
be viewable by hardwiring a Betamax to a Viewmaster and projecting the
resulting image off the northern side of the Great Wall of China. HBO is
negotiating for the rights at this time and tentively have selected Larry
Merchant to narrate the film, should they manage to achieve projection
transmission replication, or PTR. There might be some truth to the rumor as
Larry Merchant this week began a crash course to learn Mandarin Chinese, or,
failing that, conversational English.

So that's at least three times for Liston. And Dempsey is for sure at least
three. Champions have been knocked down more than people think. Of course,
it's getting back up that seperates them from the almost-champions.

If you're referring to their fight on January 24, 1976, it was over in 5
rounds, with George Foreman the winner by KO, not Ron Lyle.
