Does this mean that if Page doesn't fight Tito, then DelaHoya will force a
fight with him, setting up a clash for all three belts with Trinidad?
Very interesting stuff.....the ratings follow...

Looking at these rankings, how can ANYONE take them seriously? These
organizations are as crooked as a mountain road. Where is Golota?
Lewis? Ibeabuchi? Are we to seriously believe WBA values Maskaev,
Klitchko, Dick Ryan, Kirk Johnson more?????

ODLH #1????? Bullshit.
Lewis is the WBC champ. The other organizations never rate the other champs.
Ibeabuchi most likely going to prison. Golotas qualifications arent much
better than Klitschko.
Both the Klitschko brothers are make some serious waves in the hvy wght div.
Ryans place is purely based on his win over Nielson. Maskaev has been chalking
up decent wins since his loss to Tua. Johnsons a prospect who seems to be
overrated by many including the WBA

Michalczewski isnt going to be rated while he holds onto the WBO belt. Telesco
is a solid prospect and deserves a top ten spot. Del Valle is a former champ
and also deserves a top ten spot.

ODLH is a former wltr wght champ who despite not being one of my favorites has
done enough to desreve a #1 ranking.
The organizations ratings are often full of garbage but I dont think you
pointed much of that with your post. Personally, I have more of a problem with
Vernon Forrest and Ike Quartey all the way down at 6 & 7.

The WBA doesn't rate champs of the IBF, WBC, or WBO. Telesco and Del
Valle are legitimate contenders and they are the most deserving of this
list, with the possible exception of Michael Nunn. Wasn't Richard Hall
the (grossly undeserving) interim champ? And where is Greg Wright, who
beat both Harmon and Glenn Robinson recently.

Why?? Most people thought he won the fight with Trinidad, and,
nonetheless, he's still at the very least (some think Quartey's better)
the third best welter. What I want to know is why Ike Quartey is #7.

Youe explanations are dead on, with a caveat.
A lot of these guys have belts because they own one of the WBA's several regional
titles. Maskaev, Ruiz, and Klitschko owe at least part of their rankings to that.
But they all got their belts in setups with chumps for vacant titles.
Klitschko won his "title" by beating Joseph Chingangu (14-5). Chingangu's great
achievement was a distance loss against Julius Francis. To get in the top ten, and
pass Golota and Ibeabuchi, Klitschko stopped Tony La Rosa.
Oleg Maskaev won his (I believe vacant) "title" with a win over Toakipa Tasefa, a
20-1-2 fighter who the WBA didn't rank in their top ten. Since then, Maskaev risen in
the rankings after every mediocre defense.
Ruiz won the vacant WBANA title via a 4th round stoppage of Jerry Ballard. This was
the fight that put him at the obscenely high rank he is now, but he was already
floating around #5 in both the WBA and WBC before this fight. My only guess as to why
he was there was his NABF title, taken from James Thunder.
I know you aren't defending the WBA. But IMO awarding guys relatively easy fights for
vacant regional titles - ocassionally made up on the spot - is the new way to fix
rankings in the wake of "public disclosure" rules like those found in the McCain
bill. Especially since you can give these belts up and retain your high ranking (see
John Ruiz's discarding of the NABF title when he became the WBC's mandatory).
The presence of belts doesn't do anything to disguise the fact that these guys are
being handed rankings.
BTW, Golota is at #11.

I heard DLH might be done with Vegas, but for him to pull a Marvin
Hagler and move to another country is a shame. ;-)
