Just watched the day 3 match again from that point (104 to 87) and even
though my favorite player is Efren, I think that Earl could have won
that game had has kept his cool down the stretch. His being irritated
was clearly seen to which the commentators spoke of as well after Efren
tied the match 111 all. At one point he even went to the table when it
wasnot his turn while Efren was planning his next shot and said
something which irritated Efren and the crowd a bit. Then vigorously
complained twice to the referee about a supposed fould which clearly was
not the case and when the ref explained why this is not a foul .He
replied " thats okey Bob , I dont care " . After scrathing the cue ball
, in disgust he almost moved the other balls in the table which would
have cost him the game. Then down 119 to 117 , with his skills he could
certainly win 3 straight racks but even though he made both the 2 then
the 1 , as the commentators said it was certainly not the way to play
position for both balls and as a result he scratched while making the 1.
If there is to be a part 2 of this kind of matchup between Earl and
Efren, I think Earl would pull it off this time not only because he is
more consistent with making a ball on the break which will be to his
advatage with such format. How oftendo you see Efren making a ball on
the break as consistent as he did when he made that comeback down 104 to
87 ?NOT OFTEN specially at his age now.An exception maybe his 99 World
Championship match with Bustamante when he ran ran 9 racks in a row
with no 9 ball off the break. Efren's weakness has always been his
break even when he was younger. A flawwhich is more visible now with
age which could have been better if he did more conditioning like Earl
who jogs . Now if cockfighting , betting on card games could be
considered conditioning then Efren does a good deal of it when he's in
Manila. Also as Mr. Puyat said so himself, the reason he brought Earl to
Manila last December was that he feels Earl is a more tamed (mature)
player now. There was clamor in the past to bring Earl to Manila to
have a match with Efren but Mr Puyat was not keen on such then due to
Earls attitude . Matches here with such caliber of players draw
thousands of spectators who would boo you vigourously if you put up such
attitude. Earl was well behaved when he was here and as he said it he
has never seen such number of people watch 3 straight matches in a day
where most of the thousands of spectators were standing for hours. That
must have been some bladder control standing there and not going to the
bathroom coz if you leave you wont get your place where you stood. So
Earl still has a better break and now has more control of his
temperment which makes him a harder opponent to beat.
As for Efren as much as he does not have a strong break in comparison
to other top class players, he has accomplished a LOT in the game
World 8 ball champs 3 times, 9 ball World champ , won straight pool
tournament and good placing in carom tournament. His finnesse , safety
play, kick shot , magic shot and cue ball control is what I admire most
from him

As for best comeback, Steve Davis 8-2 down to comeback and beat Efren
Reyes 9-8 at last years World Championship was pretty damn good.
Thats probably the most enjoyable game to watch i've seen. Efren played
faultless stuff and ran 5 or 6 racks at the beginning before the
comeback.
At 8-7, Reyes plays an absolutely magical shot where he kicks cross
table at the 5 ball from the bottom right corner pocket which then
banks cross table into the far left corner pocket, (like a zig-zag
across the table). He then plays Davis safe leaving the cue ball on the
bottom rail over the left corner pocket having played the six to the
top rail about a foot and a half from the top left corner pocket, and
Davis successfully banks it back to the bottom left corner and then
finishes. Davis then runs the final rack to take the match.

Johl Younger, IIRC.
Actually, I think Steve Davis' comeback against Efren was pretty
spectacular, especially since Davis is a snooker player and Efren is
Efren, but I don't remember the scores.

i like people who are humble. if you have to talk about yourself - how great
you are, then i don't want to hear you. and there isn't a post by him where he
doesn't say something about his greatness. at least i have the balls to
express this viewpoint, unlike you who have to suck up. ever hear mike tyson,
for example, talk about how great he is, how much money he has, etc etc. do
you praise him too? i certainly don't.
