I would like to know were all the regular tournaments are. It doesn't
matter if they are each week, once a month or whatever. Below is a list of
what I already have but would like to be able to pick from more than just a
couple of place to go and also would like to be able to find something other
than just on the weekends. I guess I don't care if I have to drive a bit
for a good tournament. Anything you can add would be great and I'll
probably add them to my site ( www.iplaypool.com ) after I check them out.

Have you looked at Chalk Talk newspaper? They list most of them, I think.

And if any weekly tournaments anyone knows of are not listed in
the local pool newspaper, please contact the publisher, who would
probably be delighted to add the tournament to the calendar.
Around here, there are now two monthly pool newspapers.

Steve you might try to find a copy of the Chicago area Chalk Talk
Magazine. They have list of all the Chicago area weekly tournaments.
You could also email John Stitch at ctp...@aol.com to see if he could
help you out.

We don't get Chalk Talk in Springfield. I'll have to see if I can get one.

I have never really spent too much time in champaign. I played in a
tournamet at Jillians a long time ago and played some at the student union.
I guess there are a couple of other places around there where there is a
little more action.

I guess I should have added..........

The place to be that weekend will be St. Louis. There is a Midwest 9Ball
tournament at Action Billiards in Hazlewood. I guess there has been players
in from out of town for a week or so.

I just met several good players at the region 9 ACUI qualitfing tournament.
Apparently the tables in the Union are in good shape and include 3 billiard
tables.

Mike,

I haven't been there since my college days, but you might be able to
find a game at the student union, that's where we used to play. We
used to play ring games for 25/50 (cents) all day long. Which is why I
had a hard time catching up with my schoolwork.

Can't miss it, ask anyone. I think there's 24 tables, it's a big
union.

it's been a few years since i was up there but all 3 times i stopped in
there was a half dozen kids that would play for $5 a game or $10 sets.

I sure wish there was a tournament every night of the week like the one at
Ride the 9 in Bloomington Monday nights. It's been filled up since about
1pm. I'm 2nd on the waiting list but the last 3 times I went, 2nd on the
list ended up getting to play so I'm going anyway. Tough field too.
Donnie Branson, Mike Dunklin, Bobby McGrath, folks from Chicago come from
time to time like Jeff Sergent was there two weeks ago, the kids from the
quad cities come from time to time like Jesse Bowman, Jamie Wilson, Chad
Vilmont.
No one HAS to win this tournament.

FWIW, there is a weekly Friday night tournament at Wild Country in
Collinsville, IL. Not the best pool atmosphere (loud music,
distractingly good-looking waitresses, lots of cowboy hats and boots),
but its $2 entry fee on bar tables with an average payout of ~$90 for
first. Oh, and they do have $1 domestic bottles...which means that by
the late rounds, some of the competition is usually a little impaired
(could be a good thing or a bad thing). And if you stick around long
enough, at the end of the night they have the "Thong-A-Thon." Can't
say much about that, I'm usually gone by that time, but from what i
understand, some of the distractingly good-looking waitresses usually
get up to compete...

Oh, and I think there is also some sort of weekly tournament on
Wednesdays in a pool-hall in Alton, IL. Not sure of any details on
that one though.

I used to go to this place all the time, and if you're looking for a good
tournament, this isn't the place to go... They play with a mud ball, the
tables roll off and the lighting sucks. There's 2 million people
surrounding the pool tables at all times, and they're not there to watch the
tournament, just standing around taking up space... If you ask them to move
so you can shoot it's like you're asking to murder their first born... The
bouncers are complete and utter douche bags as well... Twenty 350 pound guys
that look like they just got done slopping pigs with their work clothes
on... Yeah, the waitresses are hot, but this place is a complete dump...

BUT!.......
If it's a club atmosphere. I might not get in trouble for taking my
girlfriend to a pool tournament. I get to play, even if it's not the best
equipment, and she can be the social butterfly. WIN-WIN.
...and I was asking when the tournament starts :)
of cource if you happen to know when the thong contest starts, thats a plus
too :)

The thong contest starts at 1AM, sharp, but just to let you know, be
prepared to turn your head very very quickly, not all the girls that enter
the contest are "of star quality" if you know what I mean ;-)

Cookie-
The tourny starts at 10:00, but unless you get to the club before
8:00, its a $5 cover charge. On the rare occasion that I go, i
usually get there about 7:55 to avoid the cover.

As I said, it's really not a great pool atmosphere, but where else can
you go to get in a tourny (with some decent competition) for $2. The
tables aren't THAT bad (definitely not great though) and I think only
one of the three has a mud ball. Plus, as you said, it is a place
where you can bring your girlfriend and not feel like too much of a
jerk. Oh, and the live music there isn't too bad half the time.

I'm going to put it on my calandar for next Friday. I don't know for sure
yet but usually every other weekend I try to get out of town and lately it's
been in the St Louis area.

Is this it?

Doesn't Ride the Nine have tournaments every Saturday too? I think
the format changes weekly, sometimes 9-Ball, sometimes 8-Ball,
sometimes single elim, sometimes double. I'm heading up that way this
weekend, so I'll check on the specifics of that for y'all.
