Hello,

Just passing on some news.

Looks like Dennis is somehow involved in an armed robbery of Rich Warren
(manager of Classic Billiards in Rochestor, NY) and Ron Casanzio (Julio)
also from Rochestor.

We probably are not going to be seeing him anymore for a long time.

I guess he didn't learn much from his last escapade...

I've known Dennis since he was a small kid and shake my head every time I hear
news like this. All we can do is pray that he somehow gets his life together
someday and can deal with his personal demons.

Yeah, but the really disgusting part is the fact that a couple weeks ago
Rich, (the guy who was robbed and manager of Classic Billiards) actually
fronted most of the expenses for Dennis to come out and play in his
tournament. He paid entry, hotel, etc.

Then he goes f**ks him. Pool doesn't need people like him.

Well for now it seems as though this news is an unsubstantiated rumor.
We'll see what develops. Dennis has seen the worst that pooldom has to
offer and I for one hope that he is not involved in anything like this.

I missed something here. Has he been charged with something, just a
suspect, convicted of something? Seems this started with speculation that
Dennis is "somehow involved." I think we should probably consider reserving
judgment until a little later in the investigation!

Actually it is not a rumor....I was there.....I have a lot more details but
don't feel it is necessary to post them.

He was arrested Sunday morning. Here are some links from local sites.

This is not speculation, I would not post somethng as serious as this if I
was just speculating

Does it matter that the Dennis Hatch in the story is only supposed to be
20 years old? Isn't the pool player in his thirties?

Dennis Hatch the pool player is 32 or 33. The Hatch listed in that
article is said to be 20 years old. The two other perps were 19 and 20.

I remember a few years ago when the local Chevron refinery had a toxic
release and a month or so later, my insurance company contacted me about
the lawsuit that was brought against me and how they wanted to start
preparing a defense. Turned out that Chevron's spokesman was named Bob
Jewett, and someone was suing everybody available.

You may want to batten your Hatches.

I assure you.......this is the Dennis Hatch we all know. One of the other
"perps" is Dennis's roommate.

That's a shame. This could put Dennis away for as long as Greg! What a
waste of talent and skill.

I can't help but think that part of the problem is the state of pool in this
country today. If an individual like Dennis could make a decent living
playing, perhaps he wouldn't be in the kind of trouble he seem to get into.
Seems that it's pretty rare to see PGA golfers, regardless of where they are
on the money list, getting into trouble with the law. NOT THAT THIS IS AN
EXCUSE! There are other ways to make a living.

I'm awfully glad you threw in that last line. Nobody is guaranteed to
make a living at what they love and are really good at. As I recall
Vincent Van Gogh didn't exactly live high on the hog.
I don't accept that excuse for people who are really in poverty and
disenfrancised and I certainly won't for somebody like Dennis.
Although I don't know him I've heard enough about him to feel that he
could make some sort of living out of pool. Other people with less
talent have managed it. The fact that he did this reflects more on his
character than on pool as a career. As most people acknowledge pool is
not a great career move, he had to have known this when he elected it.

No, I would never excuse Dennis' behavior, or Greg's for that matter,
because they've excelled at a sport that you simply cannot make a decent
living at. We all make choices in life, and stupidity seems to run in that
family for some reason. Talent with a cue obviously seems to have very
little to do with intelligence!

Michael Irvine, Bam Morris, Nate Newton, Mike Tyson come to mind. What a
person does for a living and how much money they make has nothing to do with
the fact that they are losers in life.

Let's make it easier yet:

"In all, three young men have been arrested, all from
Cheektowaga. According to public papers they are: 19-year old Ronald
E. Williams Jr. and 20-year old Nicholas M. Zotara
each charged with first-degree armed robbery and an alleged cohort,
20-year old Dennis Hatch, charged with conspiracy"

Perhaps. He may have an addiction problem, and if it's bad enough that he
wants to fix it, he can, and be just as good a man, if not better, than he was
before.

One problem Dennis could be facing soon is the difference between the way
most of us would be treated under the circumstances, and the way the system
handles habitual offenders. I'm not sure of his prior arrest record, other
than this incident, and the drug charges that got Greg locked up for what
could very easily be a life sentence.

Greg Hatch is Dennis' Dad, and he was convicted of drug trafficking last
year, and sentenced to, I believe, 20 years. Since he's about 60 or so,
well........
