Saw some very interesting Carom tables in some pool halls here in Atlanta.
They are all heated and I wonder why that is and why pool tables are not.

Comments.

Carom tables are heated to keep the moisture out and provide a consistent
playing environment day after day.

It reduces the moisture content of the cloth
giving more consistent and longer ball slides.

Changing table conditions can have a very large effect on how the
cue ball comes off the cushion. At carom billiards, that action
is all-important, so the rules actually require the table to be
heated. When good players start to miss shots because of the
equipment defects, those defects tend to get fixed.

At pool, there are several factors at work, including the trend
towards cheaper, less well-built equipment, and the lack of a
rules organization separate from the manufacturers.
