My thoughts exactly.

I think the internet is making our brains lazy in much the same way
that electronic calculators did when they first came out. Hell, I
can't even add or subtract anymore without one!

Fred,
Just go to a Billiard store and find a cue stick rack that you like
and take some measurments when no one is looking.

Get an 8' 2x4 and cut it in half.

You now have 2 4' long sections.

Clamp them together face to face.

Drill evenly spaced holes with a 2" hole saw. All the way through the first
board but only halfway through the second board.

Drill two or three holes through the side of each board to match the studs
and align between each board.

Sand. Shape a fancy edge if you want.

Paint or stain to your liking.

Mount the boards taking care to align the holes vertically.

Place cues in rack.

Enjoy.

Hi Fred,

I doubt that you will find any plans online, but you can certainly view
racks for sale online and that should give you a basic design.

Here's some simple racks.
http://www.poolndarts.com/store.cfm?cat=107

You can also buy clips and decals at that the above site, that is if you
want a clip, some racks just have a hole in the top half.

Here's some fancy racks:

You could also try posting to rec.woodworking or
net.crafts.woodworking.general .

Cheers,
Jim

Hi.

Thanks everyone for some info and tips. Someone also sent me a link to
these plans which look nice.

http://www.pooltableplans.com/crpage.htm

I decided to visit a local billiard supply and measured there fine
oak racks. They start at about $100. I measured them with no problems
from anyone.

Some have clips vs holes. I also found there are
floor racks too. Some have 1.25" place holes. Some have 1.5" place
holes. Some have extra shelves. Some have a place to hang a bridge.
Some have places for short sticks. Some have felt padded holes. Some
do not. Some have places to hang a cue rack and brush. So there is a
wide variety of possibilities. I just thought there might be a nice
set of recommended plans. I decided to avoid clips. I decided to
desing my own.

I found some wain boarding for $9.00 a sheet at Home Depot which will
provide good backing support. I bought some cheap pine to build a
"box" frame on it. I will have enough to build an extra shelf along
the bottom. I bought some felt to line the place holes. I will drill
the place holes 1.5" wide and .5" apart and do another inset hole at
1.25" hole to center the sticks. The length between the the bottom
and top rack at the stores was 55". The top holes are 3/4". I found
a sheet of sicky backed felt at home depot in the hardware area to
pad the place holes and maybe the top holes. If I build a drawer, I
might pad it also. The whole thing so far is costing me about $25.

Thanks.

The old poolhall I used to play in had an amazing carrousel cue rack built
into a cabinet on the wall that must have held fifty or sixty cues! The
owner, George Ashby (Sr.) kept it full of well maintained cues, too.
