I know Jerry will make it as stiff as you want it.
I don't know about the other fella.

Any thoughts about what specific characteristics of the josey cue might
make you play close to a ball better than you played with the southwest
you were accustomed to?

Since I've purchased and played with multiple cues from both these
guys, I'll take a stab at this. First, I'd say both make cues which are
quite consistent. Any differences are likely be a result of the type of
wood used in the forearm. Ebony, for example, will sound and feel a
little different than maple.
Next, I'd say their respective cues play pretty similerly. I can go
back and forth with little or no adjustment. Both guys offer incredible
service (i.e. no "cuemaker's time"), and true custom capability. They
will make a shaft as stiff as you like. Keith offers laminated shafts
which are really stiff.
Both guys prefer to make cues which are on the stiff side, and a little
forward balanced. I think I remember Jerry saying that if he were
making cues just for himself they'd have a little less taper, but the
demand is for a longer taper. Of course, he'll make it any way you
like.
You can get a fine cue from either maker for less than half your price
range, so style might count for a lot here. Keith offers Uni-Lock
products, so if that appeals to you, perhaps you should take that into
consideration.
Whichever you choose, you won't go wrong.

My God, Joerg, don't you own any poor quality sticks?
JoeyA, a little greener than yesterday.
That Josey is beautiful.

Your choice will most likely depend on your budget. If you have the extra
money to step up to a Josey, I'd do it.

What's all the hubbub about "radial" pin? This only means it has flat
threads as far as I know (please, enlighten me if I'm wrong). This may
have a bearing 10 - 15 years into using it, I don't know. I have cues
that have 3/8-10 pins that are 6-8 years old, used regularly, and are
still tight fitting with the original shaft(s). So, wassup with this
"radial" pin thing?
