Back in 1972 or 1973 I bought a new cue from Tad Kohara, about a year
and a half later I quit playing pool. Today I see Tad cues bring a lot
of money and I was wondering how much mine is worth. The cue is in
great condition and has a plain birdseye maple forearm, the butt has
alternating windows of ebony and ivory with mother of pearl diamonds
in the ebony windows, above and below the windows are thin rings of
alternating ebony and ivory and above and below that are thicker rings
of ebony inlayed with maple dashes(I think). Before I bought this cue
I had one of Tad's plain birdseye cues and it played so well that I
ordered this one and sold the plain one because I wanted a little
prettier cue. To my amazement the new cue played even better!

Thanks in advance for any help, Richard

Blue book says $1100 at 98% for 0 points. I assume " plain maple
forearm" means no points. The prices go up to $6500 for the more ornate
cues. Of course it is really only worth what someone is willing to pay
for it, but you should have no problem selling a Tad.

Cues like that in like new condition are going for around1300.00 to 2000.00
depending on condition and number of shafts. A brand new plain maple TAD
cue is 1500.00 The Blue Book is only a general guide, and is not really
accurate for determining current cue prices. The 2nd edition of the Blue
Book is about 3 years old or more.

you might want to watch this tad auction over at ebay.

Yeah except for the part where that one has 4 points, 5 veneers, and 3 shafts.

yeah, jimbo, but i'm sure richard is a bright boy. he can get a good
idea of it's value.

or he can get an answer from joe van, who posts here all the time.

interestingly, i've owned three tad's in the past, and contrary to
everyone else's encounter with them, the ones i had all played like
shit. they had a dead joint. i could get more action out of a broom
handle.

Tads are funny cues when it comes to value and selling. Depending upon where
I was selling it between 1200/2000. If I had this cue at Valley Forge I think
it would
sell quickly to our overseas customers. But then again everything has slowed a
bit,
some due to the economy and some due to the summer season.

Thanks guys for the information I will be watching the auction on
ebay. My cue doesn't have points however the inlay on the butt of my
cue is a little more
ornate than the one on ebay.
