My local pool hall sells only Huebler Cues. I have never heard of them
but, I'm sure someone in here has heard of them and must have an opinion.
Please share any opinion. Thanks.

Huebler is one of several popular cue brands. I have an old one that I
bought in '72 that I'm still playing with (a plain, level 2 cue, all
handmade, flat-faced joint, still straight). It was my 3rd cue stick, and
third time's a charm! I've heard several people say that the nylon insert
that Huebler uses can crack when used to break (8-ball, 9-ball, etc.) or
when left out in the cold weather. I usually don't break with mine, and
although it has gotten cold, and hot, before while in my car, I don't let
this happen routinely. Try to borrow a copy of the "Blue Book" to read
about them.

I've owned three Hueblers since 1986 and all have been good sticks. Many
of my friends have them and I have seen only one plastic joint have a
problem in all that time (it pulled out slightly from the shaft). The
problem was corrected easily and had not failed again for over a years
use since repaired. Unfortunately it was stolen last New Years Eve, the
former owner bought another Huebler. Paul Hueblers factory resides in
Linn MO. 65051, P O Box 644, 1-314-897-3692 (FAX 1-314-897-4255) and I
believe Bill McConnell is still his Sales Manager.

Hueblers are pretty good mid-level cues. If you can find an old one like
Rons....they are very collectible as well. most of the older ones have
ivory ferrules and ivory joints. the newer ones play kind of inbetween a
McDerrmott and a Meucci. They hit harder and stiffer than Meucci and
softer than a McD.

I've had a Huebler HS-6 for about 2 years and have really liked it. I
just replaced the shaft with a Predator 314, but to be honest, I think
I like the hit of my Huebler shaft better (for some reason I can draw
better with my old one).

Peter, Mills, anyone;

Over a period of about 13 years, I've had three custom-spec.
sneaky-petes made by Huebler. They were good sticks, built
to the Specs. I requested. Modestly priced. One turned out
to be the best break-stick I ever had and I still use it.

I've had no experience with the their "production" cues and
I don't think they do custom orders for modestly-priced sticks
anymore. Almost sure they don't.

Buying one of their plain, two-piece, sticks off the
shelf? I'd hit some balls with it, try to pick out the straightest
one with the best-grained shaft and go with it! The're good value
for the money.

Or better yet, help Brad Simpson, et al, stay in business by BUYING a
copy of the "Blue Book" to read about them. That way, the publishers
may be encouraged to continue with annual updates... :-)

I have a Heubler. It is a pretty good cue, but when I bought it, it was
"laquered" from butt to ferrule. This included the shaft. In order to get a
consistent stroke on a particularly sweaty hand day, I was encouraged to use a
glove.

After buying my McDermott, I have ditched the glove and use the Heubler to
break with. I like the hit of the Heubler better but I like the feel of the
wood on the McDermott.

It was a great first cue and I still break with it. :-)

several years ago Huebler was sponsoring Buddy Hall and they had a series
out called the RifleMan........some of which sported ivory ferrules and
inlays. in the price range most of the Huebler's are to be found in, it is
hard to find a better value.

I remember when Meucci had a "Rifleman" series.

Questions!

Was the shaft actually designated as being for a Heubler?

If not, which shaft did you use?

Did they duplicate the shaft decoration the original shaft has?
(assuming your's did)

Did they match shaft diameter well?

Have you played with the Predator shaft long enough to properly judge
the hit and ability to draw?
(i gather there is definitely an adjustment period)

And most importantly, have you seen any difference in deflection?

: Questions! [About using a Predator shaft on a Huebler]

I'm not the guy you wrote this to, but I have been using a
Predator on a Huebler so I'll answer too.

: Was the shaft actually designated as being for a Heubler?

: If not, which shaft did you use?

No. Predator makes shafts that fit cues that use 10, 14, and 18
threads-per-inch joint screws. My Huebler uses an 18 tpi screw so there
wasn't a problem.

: Did they duplicate the shaft decoration the original shaft has?
: (assuming your's did)

In my cue's case this wasn't a problem.

: Did they match shaft diameter well?

Almost perfectly. 98% perfectly. The Predator shaft is SLIGHTLY
smaller than the joint. In play, this has no effect that I've been able to
notice.

: Have you played with the Predator shaft long enough to properly judge

: the hit and ability to draw?
: (i gather there is definitely an adjustment period)

I have. I get better spin of all kinds with my Predator than with
my original Huebler shaft.

: And most importantly, have you seen any difference in deflection?

Oh yes. As I posted about a month ago in my huge comparison
article (which I've still got, I think, if you want it), my Predator has
about 1/3 of the deflection of the Huebler.

To whom? Mine is probably worth more to me than to you. Huebler made a
range of models from simple to fancy, and priced accordingly. Also, I
would think that the wholesale versus retail price would vary
substantially. $100 each is probably in the ballpark. Since they are
old and made of wood, you will want to verify that they are still
"straight". You can probably find an old list of the Huebler models on
the Internet; I located a copy a few years ago.

I didn't think Huebler was making them anymore. I wonder if your local
pool hall got a hold of some old stock?
