Anyway, I really like the philosophy of Ted Harris.....BUT he's never at the
shop, so I don' know who really makes his stuff.
The best playing cue I ever hit was a SW, but I ain't paying the price and I
ain't got 9 years to wait, either. Those guys are selling art, not cues!
Anybody want to offer an opinion on the best rep for hit of the makers that
want the work? There is a ton of them that would LIKE the work, that's not
what I asked:)

The secret is to *always* play with the same stick!
Better yet is to buy a stick which you can replace with the same exact thing
if your stick is damaged or stolen. Same weight, size, taper, tip,
deflection, and shape of tip.
Sort of like driving a small car with a clutch. You get used to it. Then you
go drive a big heavy truck with a clutch and it takes months of learning and
getting used to before you can operate it with the same confidence you did
the car. Takes longer to accelerate, harder to press on the clutch, the
clutch engages at a different spot, and longer stopping distance!
Same thing with a cue. Get a new different weight (and everything else) cue,
it takes months to get used to it.
Change the tip to a different type, takes months to get used to it.
Change the shape of your tip, takes months to get used to it.
Change the shaft deflection, and your shots will no longer go where you want
when using english. This could take a year or more to get used to the new
shaft!
And this is mostly with the "finesse" part of the game. Shooting balls an
exact distance like with safeties. Using an exact amount of english. Drawing
the cue ball back a specific distance. Etc. Much easier with a cue/tip type
you have been using for several years.
I have only hit with perhaps a couple of dozen custom cues, and, have
only played with a few. However, I have 2 cue makers that I highly
recommend -
www.joseycues.com and www.layanicues.com
I own 3 of each, I have a pair (playing and jump/break) of custom made
by Josey and bought a Josey sneaky-pete off of ebay - I bought all of
my Layanis off of ebay.
I play about 95% of the time with my custom Josey ...
And, with all of that being said, I lust for a Ginacue - they're just
a little pricey!

I cant afford those "pricey" cues with that being said the most expensive
stick I ever had was a 600.00 Meucci that I got for 350.00 along with a
Meucci SP breaker that I got for cheap that I ended up selling when I hung
up my sticks for good once lol !! I now own a Meucci , a Lucasi SP and a
Player's break cue and I can sincerely that I get more action with the
Lucasi , It has a stiffer hit than the Meucci and just plays better , I
still play with the Meucci once in a while but when I feel my game is in a
slump I break out the Lucasi and work on my mechanics and it has yet to
fail me !! I know theat Lucsi is one of the "Lower" end cues but don't
knock em til you try them I always say !!

How much do you wanna pay, MM? Most of them are $600 and up for a
basic player...
Out of the cues I've played with that are in my price range, I can
recommend Layani (my playing cue but the joint is unusual),
MurrayTucker (if you can talk him into it), Barry Cameron (my wife's
playing cue), Sheldon Lebow (the curly maple on the cue he built me to
match a Lebow jump cue I won was awesome), Sherm Adamson, and Mike
Webb.
They key is to hit with a cue or cues by the maker you're considering.
I hit with a whole bunch of cues before I first came across a Layani
and it just felt 'right' to me the first time... but OTOH I know they
are not for everybody. I like a 'soft' hitting cue with a lot of
feedback.
Outside of that, any of the ACA members will make you a solid, good
hitting cue...

Well you did say you liked your Sheldon.... (excluding is politics no
doubt)
I'll throw in by usual --but very infrequent of late-- plug for Trogdon
Cues. He's a gem and makes a very nice playing cue custom built for you
(not too many 'built on speculation' cues left anymore).
www.trogdoncues.com His number is on the website too if you just want to
call him.
BTW Dan plays very sporty (sorry about ruining your action, buddy) I bet
he'd make ole 100 ball Lou earn his wins....

Mark, I jus saw ur post. No, Sheldo is a great guy and I liked his cues very
much. I just thought I'd try something a bit different. I ordered one from a
guy I hearad about. I't s going to have ivory joints, and will be a player.
I'll let you know how it works out.
BTW, my main box has Linux, and I like OE for a reader. And this box has
trouble finding a wifi sometimes. I go one now, though.
Glad to hear from you Becky! You're one sweet lady! (handomse, too no
doubt:) Gideon is in my novel, so he knows I like him, too!

Why not re-publish it. I looked around but couldn't find it anymore.
