Hello all.

I was playing downstairs at the table in my cold basement and I was
wondering if cold or hot weather has any effect on the pool tables.
More specifically, does it strongly affect the way the cushions play?
How about the pockets? I know moisture has some effect, especially on
the cloth, but I'm not sure about temperature.
Maybe it's purely psychological, but I seem to play worse when it's cold

Thanks

Cold and Hot , Moist and Dry... have immense effects on play.

When the balls are warm.. they react more lively with each other, that I
think
applies to many things, but we are talking billiards here.
When cold, the reverse is true...

Heated Tables.. found in carom, allow the balls to travel further with
less effort.
I believe this is because both the balls and the bed of the table are
warmed,
and thus constant.

As for rails... warm equates to more lively, and your guess as to cold to
be
more dead, are true. Rubber, when cold is tight and unresponsive, and
can
quite possible will age faster.

Now let's talk humidity.. I don't have a dehumidifier by my snooker table
for
my health....... humid rails can cause ball to jump the table, especially
when
struck hard in the pocket and off the inside rail..... (especially in
snooker)
the balls are smaller, and lighter!.

I would heat the basement a few hours before play... and put a
dehumidifier
in the corner....

Try this experiment: Get a tub of hot water... place your billiard balls
in it for
10 minutes,, dry and play.... they'll be clean... and lively!!!!

regards,
Mark Kulaga.
