Over the past two weeks, I have been reading people's views about Shaq
and he scores most of his points. First off, I will concede that he
could score about 2-4 pts more a game if he hits his free throws. But
I am sick of hearing that he only scores on dunks.

SO WHAT, if he scores on dunks??? What is the highest percentage shot
in the league?? It is the dunk. In fact most players would love to be able
to dunk as much as Shaq can but they are not able to do it. I would love to
have him dunk about 13-15 times a game but that is not always possible.
He can beat his man and dunk, why not. He is learning a baseline
jumper and a baby hook, but why shoot those when you can get to the basket
and lay it up or dunk it all game long. The kid can overpower any center in
the league. He has done it to Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, and many others.
So why use the power and get to the hole.

I cant understand how come so people are blinded when it comes to Shaq.
He is an awesome talent with a ton of potential. He is developing new
ways to beat people and slam on them. I just personally feel that a lot
of Shaq bashers have not seen but 1 or 2 games of this year. I have seen
every game (except over X-mas break) and I will tell you that he is much
better than last year.

Watch out NBA because in 2-3 years, no one will be able to stop Shaq down
low even those underclassmen in college.

Statistically, he is scoring more than David Robinson, and may be doing
better than him somewhere else (prob. rebounds, since Worm is a Spur now),
but I cannot remember a game in the last two years where Shaq and David
have gone head-to-head and Shaq has "overpowered" David. Usually, David
does better statistically, and likewise, usually the Spurs win.

Just my $0.02.

For those with their flames ready. I AM NOT A SHAQ FAN.

But, after watching the last Knicks v Orlando game, you must admit
Shaq has added a lot to his game. Truthfully, it was the best game
I have seen him play (even though his first half was added to by the fact
Ewing was being used as a double team - a questionable tactic), and he
showed a decent jump hook from the paint, and a questionalble baseline
jumper, which went in anyway. If he does as well this weekend, then I will
be a believer. Certainly there is NO ONE in college right now who will
be able to match him one-up for quite some time. And only really Hakeem,
Robinson, Ewing, Mourning, and perhaps Mutombo can play him one up, and
then they usually send a double team anyway.

He is still at BEST the third or fourth best center in the league. Maybe
even as low as equal fifth.

The Bullets have _2_ centers that SHAQ does not overpower, Duck and big Georghe
Muresan. At or above 300 lbs each, neither is overpowered by Shaq.

I think the point of this post was to bring to peoples attention that
dunking is not at all a bad thing. Think about it ..... would you rather
have Shaq on your team than who your center is now? I would say that most
people would say YES! He's a young guy now, and has a chance to be one of
the best centers ever. He may only be fourth or fifth best right now, but
look at who is rated better than him. Hakeem: Has been in the league for
about ten years now, and is having one of his best, if not his best season
ever.
Robinson: Been in the league around 4-5 years(I'm not positive), and is
having his best scoring year(due to the addition of Worm on D).

Ewing: Been around for a long time. Has always been consistent in most
aspects of his game, but it took time to mature...

My point is, give Shaq time to mature, and you may be comparing some new,
rookie center to him in a few years.

Just trying to show that there is a maturing process that takes place, and
that Shaq may be the best center in the future. He has to improve on some
aspects of his game(FT shooting, attitude, continue to develop outside shots),
but he is trying, and it seems to be working. Like others, I see that his
game is much improved. He does have a little hook, and he is a quick son of
a bitch for 7'-0' and 300lbs.

Just MY $.02 Joe
