The following was posted to the tennis newsgroup. Alexandra Stevenson has
surpisingly reached the QF of Wimbledon as a qualifier.\

"The latest rumor being pursued by the press is that Alexandra Stevenson is
the (illegitimate) daughter of basketball legend Julius "Dr J" Erving.
Samantha Stevenson is not married (and never has been) and declines to say
who the father is. She is white and Alexandra is of mixed heritage (she's
also 6' 1", much taller than her mother.)

Apparently a copy of Alexandra's birth certificate has been obtained and
printed by the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. It lists the father as Julius
Winfield Erving II ‹ the full name of Dr. J.

Alexandra (born Dec. 15, 1980) has the full name of Alexandra Winfield Stevenson

Erving, married since 1972 and the father of 4, denies he is Alexandra's
father. However, Samantha, a sports writer, covered the Philadelphia 76ers
when Erving
played for the team. "

Mike...Alexandra is playing pretty well for her Wimbledon debut I
think. Maybe America has another star on their hands. I'm glad the
rain died down so play could resume.

Nah. It just doesn't work for me. And this poor girl's mother sounds
like a complete loonbar. I feel bad for her AND the Doctor.

I did see a snippet of her at the news conference.
She handled herself and the media fairly well. I've
seen few people tell the media to f*** off so
firmly and somewhat politely. 8)

Dr. J has denied the allegations, while Alexandra refuses to comment.
Samantha Stevenson did live in Philadelphia for a while, but the birth
father is likely someone who just shares the same name as Dr. J.
Winfield is the middle name of Dr. J and Alexandra, which is probably
this issue was even brought up. Also when Alexandra was born, California
law was pretty lax on the parents' names on the birth certificate, so
there is a very good chance it isn't Dr. J.

Weird. I was just watching her play that cute australian girl today,
and I thought "wow, she looks a lot like drj." Now I find out that it
is drj's daughter.

As for the match, it was very poorly played. Both of them were clearly
surprised to be in the quarters. The blonde girl couldn't even get her
serve over the net. Michael

Well if you're a qualifier, wouldn't you be a bit surprised by reaching
the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event? It's not surprising if both of
them were feeling the pressure.

The blonde girl couldn't even get her > serve over the net.

Jelena Dokic is the blonde girl. I didn't watch today...hope there are
no more rain delays for the rest of tournament but that's probably
wishful thinking on my part if we base it on the second week of the
tournament.

My comments about her mother being a loonbar was with regards to her
earlier bizarre, almost unhinged comments about lesbians in pro tennis
preying on her daughter.

But how about that Dr J, huh? Talk about bringing the "soul to the
hole", eh?

Of course she's playing well, but I don't think she has the shots to be
a great player. Keep in mind that the girl is already 18 and up until
now we haven't heard anything from her. Most of the greats of today
were well established by the time they are 18. Michael

They were aged 16 and 18, with little pro-experience.

I watched it, she was okay - she won the second set, but her serving
let her down in the third. Oh well, at least Australia still has Pat.

Anyone that big and pumped full of steroids can be as good as her.

Actually, Jelena Dokic (yeah, the non-drugged up of the two in the
quarterfinalists) is originally from the former Yugoslavia. She seems
very Australian, but has only lived in the country since she was 14 (or
two years).

Evidently you become confused when two names start with the same
first letter. Amelie Mauresmo is the steroid freak, not Alexandra
Stevenson.

HTH.

That's because she chose to complete high school instead of going the
professional route fulltime Michael. As for your comments about the
women pros and being established at the age of 18, generally that is the
case, but Martina Navratilova and Lindsay Davenport are example of
players who didn't become superstars until their early 20s. It might
interest you that Alexandra is friends with the Williams sisters. She
was effectively an amateur entering a pro tournament. She hasn't played
many pro matches. Ditto for Jelena Dokic, who was the world junior
champion for ladies last year.
