The thing that irritates me most about Kemp is his taunting.
After he receives an alley-oop pass on the break from Gary Payton (which
is the only way he knows how to score), he jaws and taunts like he is
God. This guy has never won anything in his life, yet he celebrates a
simple two points like he is better than you.
All of this wouldn't bother me nearly as much if people didn't
proclaim him to be "the MVP of the Pacific Division" and, as Bill Walton
says, "only a step below Jordan and Hakeem." Jordan and Hakeem are
winners - great athletes and great basketball players who do not
celebrate until the ring is as good as on their finger. Shawn Kemp will
never be in their class. He is an average basketball player at best who
has shown no will to improve and no will to win.
Just a followup to my scathing but accurate review of Shawn
Kemp. MJ and Olajuwon are not only great players - they CARRY their
teams at times on the way to the title. When is the last time you
heard: "Shawn Kemp scored 22 of his 45 points in the fourth quarter to
bring Seattle back from 14 down...."? Granted, scoring isn't everything,
but if Kemp wants to be an All NBA great like he and some others think he
is, he will have to show the ability to carry his team like the other
Dream Teamers can do. Kemp seems to be satisfied with collecting his
paycheck, starring in commercials, and pleasing the casual fan with his
dunks. He has a lot to learn about being a winner.
There! I finally got this out of my system. If any of you have
any opinions on this, please respond!

Kemp is a 20/10 guy, at 19.6 ppg and 11.4 rpg. The other "average"
players in this group are: V. Baker, C. Barkley, P. Ewing, G. Hill,
K. Malone, A. Mourning, S. O'Neal, H. Olajuwon, and D. Robinson.

Kemp's point and rebound totals have improved every season.

Kemp just likes to admire his work, for he is one of the best dunkers in
the game.

Kemp is in Hakeem's class and is a winner. jordon is not in the same
class as Kemp is. Kemp is far out awesome, unlike the ballhog.jordon is
no winner. jordon is foolish and weak.

There were three plays in the first quarter that showed just how good
Shawn Kemp was. He pumped faked. He ball faked. He hip faked. Nobody fell
for any of his moves. He said "The hell with it," simply rose over the
defender and canned the jumper. Eventually he realized that Hakeem,
Chuckie Brown, it didn't matter. Shawn Kemp is Shawn Kemp and he will
rise over the defender and score.

That was in the first half, where he ended up going 9 for 10. Only
two others in playoff history have done more.

Only Kemp can guard Kemp. When he presses and trys to push the issue
he hurts himself. These are fewer and farther between then in the
past.

You are off here. He does show his excitement, but it is not directed
at the crowd, or the other team, just the thrill of a great move.
But then Shaq never taunts or chest thumps now does he?

Well from one side. Houston lost their cool and Hakeem was taking
more then a couple cheap shots. Clyde lost his cool a bit as well as
well as Horry. Many Sonics ended up with cuts, stitches, and other
minor injuries at the hands (or elbows) of the Houston players who
lost their cool. What really impressed me was that the Sonics just
shugged it off and kept playing, never lowering themselves to that
level.
Kemp has matured so much it is scary. Listen to his post game
interviews and hear how much respect for Houston he has, and how you
won't hear any boasting.

The only comment I have to this statement is that Shawn is not taunting.
that is just his pure emotion. Shawn and GP are the guys who pump up the
team and that's what he's doing. He keeps his mouth shut about a lot of
things. And oh, he gets called for taunting at the Key as much as he
does everywhere else. But don't forget he is the REIGN MAN!!

Classic Coz. Crying about anything and everything that exists outside
of Cozworld. Wasn't winning enough? Really sad to see thugs like
Drexler and Hakeem beat up on nice guys like Payton and Kemp. It's a
good thing you lost, Houston, or the fans would have been attacked as
well.

You mean this guy used to cut down the team he just beat and he used
to take all the credit for beating them? What an asshole.
Get a grip, Coz. This isn't scary. All NBA players say the same
thing. They're reading from a script prepared by the commissioner's
office.

I agree that Seattle-Chicago will be a great series, expecially with both
teams playing outstanding ball. It was pathetic seeing Karl Malone eat
up Shawn Kemp, tomorow I expect to wittness the Bulls' centers hack Shaq
to death, where he will flunk it miserably at the foul line. Shaq is a
retard, because he hasn't learned to shoot foul shots, until he does, he
won't be wearing a ring. The Sonics do have a good bench, it will be
interesting to see if they can hit their three's like they did against
Houston. A key factor will be the play of Scottie Pippen, who needs to
take the ball to the hoop more often. I see the Bulls over the Magic in
6, and the Sonics over the Jazz in 5 maybe 4. The bulls will then go on
to beat the sonics in a grueling 7 game series.

You have obviously never actually WATCHED Shawn Kemp play a basketball game
this year. Do us all a favor and watch a few befor you make a stupid comment
like "He can't shot, he has no post moves ... blah blah blah"
Anybody who ever says the words "Kemp can only dunk" again ... Needs a good
butt kicking.
As an avowed Seattle/Shawn Kemp/Gary Payton hater, I will give
them credit for today's victory. Both Kemp and Payton outplayed Stockton
and Malone. But, and I am trying to be as objective as possible, I still
think that once Utah sets the tempo and slows the game down to a crawl
like they are so capable of doing, Payton and ESPECIALLY Kemp will hit
the wall. All Kemp does is try to jump over people and dunk (Gary Payton
definitely has more skills and will probably survive in the halfcourt).
Kemp, up until now, has not shown that he has the intelligence to thrive
when the game comes down to strategy and sets rather than flashy dunks
jumping ability. If Kemp and Payton dominate the Jazz while playing the
Jazz's game, I will swallow my pride and give credit where credit is due.
That being said, if I had Shawn Kemp's game myself, I wuld be
perfectly content.
>Perhaps you watched a different game? Karl Malone did no eating up of

Sorry Einstein but the Sonics can not use any of those 30 points in the rest
of the series. It's 1-0 whther they won by 30 or 1 point in triple overtime.

Just like those last two shots he hit over Malone near the end of Game 2
right? This seems like a much different Sonics team then the the ones that
bowed out of the playoffs the past two years.

What? If Kemp, Payton, and the rest of the Sonics can keep the Jazz from
ever getting the game into a half-court setting, then it SHOULD be to their
credit. Kemp has done exactly what it has taken so far to demolish the
Jazz....by igniting offensive spurts that took the Jazz out of the type of
game that they enjoy.

Can he do it against the Bulls? I think not. Playing the Jazz and their
defense is one thing, playing against the pressure defense of the Bulls (
which brought them back from 18 down against Orlando) is another. ;)

I'll say this for Shawn. In game three, he got the short end of a couple of really bad calls. He was
called for his third foul in the 2nd quarter when Malone ran up to him, banged Kemp, and then flopped.
Then, he took an obvious charge from Malone, (yes, his shoulders square, feet set, arm out of the way)
and received his 6th foul with 3mins to go in the game. Sure, it would be swell if Shawn could keep from
picking up the other 4 along the way, but that's the style of game he plays. It should be noted that he
statistically matched Malone that game despite much shorter minutes.
As for Gary, I think these playoffs have left no doubt who is the best point guard in the west. Why has
he been such a big secret? Why wasn't he put on the Dream Team? Two reasons.
1) He doesn't dunk much. Fans don't want to see highlights of nice scoup-shots.
2) Seattle has talent at every position. With so many weapons, no one player has can maintain
statistically elite status. You look at an average Seattle box score, and you see 6+ players in double
figures every night. Gary's job is to maneuver his team to victory -- whether that means stealing the
ball from Mitch Richmond in the Sacramento Series, or snaking down the lane to put the Sonics ahead in
game 4 of the Utah series.

I said I would take back my statements andI will, to some
extent. I have changed my opinion about Gary Payton. This man can
play. He is by far the best player on his team during the postseason.
He is carrying them offensively, hitting one big shot after another.
His floor game is pretty decent also. It is not as glaring a deficiency
as I thought it would be. I'd say he is a geat offensive player and
good point guard.
What has impressed me the most, however, is his defense on John
Stockton. Payton has TOTALLY taken him out of his game even to the
point where Stockton cannot ring up double digits in assists, let alone
points. Payton has unquestionably outplayed his counterpart (and with
minimal trask talking to go with it).
I have NOT changed my opinion about the "Man Child," however. This guy
is the biggest fraud in the NBA; a creation of the media. He gets into
foul trouble in every game he plays, and he only scores when he has an
uncontested dunk. Any post up, jump shot, or general face up score is
an accident and pure luck. Karl Malone has dominated him throughout the
series. The hree wins are not due to Shawn Kemp, and the two Utah wins
are credited to Karl Malone. This is why Karl Malone is the greatest
power forward to ever play, and why Shawn Kemp can't even make the
Olympic team.
I think Shawn Kemp played a very big role on the win in game 2 where he
had two big buckets and a steal. Sure he has a lot of turnovers, but he
is still a major threat to any team, he's ofter double teamed as he gets
the ball. Once in the post and in single coverage you can't stop him.
Yes Karl Malone is better than Kemp, but Kemp is far better than Glenn
Robinson.

A creation of the media? This is ludicrious. Kemp has been an integral
part of Seattle's march through the playoffs....and has put up good numbers
even in games that he has had foul trouble.
>He gets into foul trouble in every game he plays, and he only scores when

Ha-ha-ha. You are nuts. Must not be watching the same series I have. You
don't score 24 points, grab 13 rebounds, and dish out 5 assists in a game by
pure luck.
>Karl Malone has dominated him throughout the series.
>The three wins are not due to Shawn Kemp, and the two Utah wins are

Whatever. Karl Malone's inability to make free throws was very costly in
game four. And, had the refs actually called the foul on Kemp at the end of
regulation in game five (I think you could clothesline people at that
point in the game and not get called for a foul), Malone would have been the
chump, and Kemp would have won the game for the Sonics.
>This is why Karl Malone is the greatest power forward to ever play, and why

Yeah, Malone is great....but how does that have any bearing on the topic of
Kemp being overrated?

That's crazy. It's not like Stockton or Richmond do dazzling dunks.
Seattle's duo got ripped off from the Dream Team.

I'd say Kemp has arrived in this series. Played hard, with heart, with
skill, under control and for a full 48. He has arrived and frankly I'd
take him now over Karl Malone.
P-t-K
