Didn't say TRYING to trade him was a bad move. Just remember that they
wanted to trade ANYONE who would free up money under the cap, not just
Skiles.
Look, if the guy was THAT bad and had NO ability, then how could he
have gotten MIP in 90-91? Gotten 30 assists in one game (despite
Jerry Reynolds)? Having attended nearly every Magic home game, I am
just tired of the stubborn fans who expect perfection and the fickle
fans who were in love with the guy the first two years of the franchise
(Skiles was voted MVP by the fans in 89-90 despite being 9th on the
team in scoring, and behind Sam Vincent on the depth chart. The next
year, when Vincent got hurt, Skiles played admirably and Sam was
never heard from again.) If you surround Skiles with good players
(and I believe this year the Magic are doing that, God I hope
they stay healthy), he will be an adequate starting point guard for
at least another year or two or three.
