The insignia on the Montreal Expos caps appears to spell "elb" while
forming an "M". Does anyone know what "elb" is short for? Or am I just
imagining things?

Thanks,
Dave

The part about forming an "M" is correct; obviously "M" being for Montreal.

There are two symbols inside the "M" and they are "e" and "b" for
"Expos Baseball"; what you see as an "l" is just filler to help make
the "M".

Back when the symbol was new and he owned the team, people used to kid
Charles Bronfman that the "e" was really a "c", and so the "c" and "b"
formed his initials. C.B. wasn't that kind of guy, though.

A better question is what will the symbol look like after they move to
St. Petersburg?

Interesting. I heard that the "e" and the "l" are really a "j" for
"jouer ball" or something French like that.

Come on, Dave. Don't you know?

"Elvis Loves Baseball"

Actually, the true meaning for this goes back to the Expos' namesake, the
Worlds Fair, Expo '67, which happened right around the time that the franchise
was awarded.

"elb" is not short for "elbow" but it does stand for "Exposition Le Beau"
(pardon my French, check my spelling)
