(Windsor, ON) The Canadian National Baseball Team unveiled its lineup for
the 1995 season late this afternoon. The 25-man roster, composed of 11
pitchers, 2 catchers, 8 infielders and 4 outfielders, includes 12
holdovers from last year's National Team. The team will face it's first
real test Friday, as they take on Team USA in Nashville, Tennessee in the
first of a 3-game exhibition series.

Head coach Jim Baba likes the prospects this year's team. "I think we
really improved on offense from last year", said Baba, "and our defense is
going to be a heck of a lot better, especially our infield. The infield
was a trouble spot defensively at times last summer, but I think this year
will be better.

However, Baba seemed unsure about the state of the pitching staff. "Our
rotation is solid. We have three or four solid, consistent, reliable
pitchers up front. But after that, we're still waiting for someone to step
forward and take charge." In order to better evaluate the pitching staff,
many of whom are new to international competition, Team Canada will take
an extra pitcher on the U.S. trip. That means that someone will have to be
released after the trip, in order to cut down to the standard 24 player
roster. "We've only budgeted for 24 players for our entire tour" explained
team spokesperson Chris Burchett, "but one of our starters can't make it
for the week in the U.S., so the coaching staff is using that week to
determine who will occupy the final spot on the staff."

In fact, the team must drop two more players before August, as the Olympic
qualifying tournament, the Americas Baseball Challenge, only allows a
maximum of 22 players on each roster
