During week 9 of the 1991 NFL season, when the New York Giants played the Washington Redskins on Sunday Night Football, the local CBS affiliate in the Washington DC area, WUSA, bought the rights to the game for $1.1 million, thinking that they were in the clear. Sure enough, guess what happened to be on that same night... and guess what network happened to have the rights to said event.
