I just heard it on CNN. John Smiley of the Pittsburgh Pirates went to
Minnesota Twins for two minor league prospects plus an unspecified
amounts of cash. John Smiley is not happy.

I guess the Pirates gave up being competitive this year and decide to
stock up for the future and inflate their bottom line. Smiley is my
favorite pitcher on the Pirates' staff. Oh well, at least now they can
keep the pitcher they drafted from the Expos on the major league roster.

Maybe the Barry Bonds trade won't be too far along.

Well, how would you like to get traded on your birthday?

Yep, according to the Play Ball calendar here in my office, today is
Smiley's 27th.

Other birthdays today:

Hank Sauer 1919
Charlie Root 1889
Pistol Pete Reiser '19
Jimmie Hall '38
Cito Gaston '44
Tim Lollar '56
Rod Scurry '56
Saint Patrick 457

This calendar is packed with birthday listings.
Is there any interest out there for me to enter each day's birthdays each
morning when I arrive? I think it's fun to think about all the players as
their birthdays come around.
