I WISH Beavis & Butthead were calling the games instead of those guys.

Nope. Hawk and Wimpy of the WGN Sox broadcasts have to win the Beavis and
Butthead award, IMHO. Sorry.

Perfect.

Just say no to teevee sound. Listen to CBS radio. Especially Ernie Harwell.

Anyone know who the radio team is for the World Serious?

Hopefully it once again will be Vin Scully, as it has been the past
few years. (He's done it with Johnny Bench, but I couldn't care less
about him).

I'm sorry American guys but the baseball fans in Canada are subject
to an intense torture during baseball coverage that USAers couldn't
possibly imagine.

We get all the American superstations and ESPN here. I have heard
almost every television broadcaster in major league baseball.

Brian Williams on CBC and Fergie Oliver on CTV do the worst play
by play in all of television in any sport. You would have to hear
them to know what I mean.

Don't bicker about CBS. It really isn't that bad. Bob Costas is
back in four months and you have it lucky compared to Blue Jays
fanson Fridays Wednesdays and Sundays.

I get CBC from Vancouver, and I know exactly what you mean about Brian
Williams. This guy has an extremely annoying habit: He can't mention any
player without using his first and last name, and usually his defensive
position as well.

"Up to the plate now is John Olerud, the 1st baseman. Jack McDowell is ready.
There's a line drive in the gap. It is retrieved by Lance Johnson, the
center fielder, and it will be a double for John Olerud...Jack McDowell
and the Chicago White Sox are in a another jam. John Olerud is at second
and Paul Molitor, the Toronto Blue Jays' designated hitter is due next."

Imagine this for nine innings.

i actually like mcdonough. occasionally when mccarver says something
completely idiotic, mcdonough will follow it up with some dry humor
showing how idiotic mccarver's statement was. the cool thing about
this is that mccarver never seems to realize that the joke's on him.

for example, last night mccarver was blathering on and on about how
the pitcher's mound in baseball was the highest raised surface on
a playing field of a sport: "think about it! hockey? no. football?
no. tennis? no. basketball? no. blah blah blah blah...."

mcdonough can't very well expect to be paid if he says, "shut the
hell up, you moron", so instead he says something like, "high and
inside, three balls and one strike. cliff diving."

i thought that was cool. i also liked his comment after leo
mazzone's audible "fuck!".

Ehh, perhaps an insult to B&BH fans.

Might be Harwell and Whatsisname again. Or the LCS t.v. team that doesn't
do the Series. Anyway, get this.

We have two all-sports radio stations in Chicago, plus a CBS-owned
news station. *Plus* an FM (WLUP) that carried the Sox game on Sat.
(because its sister station was carrying Blackhawks hockey on the AM).
Now ... GUESS WHAT MAJOR MARKET CITY DID NOT GET THE NLCS ON THE
RADIO?

Or correct me, someone, please, cos I'm often not near a teevee when
Braves and Phils are playing.

It certainly was a better comeback than the stunned silence in
the ALCS after Ozzie Guillen's audible "fuck!".

Sean is great. He deserves better. Do people remember reading
about McCarver when he was an up-and-coming broadcaster about how
terrific he was? Who *were* the flacks that wrote that stuff?

The other day I finally heard something fairly intelligent from
McCarver when he said something like
"51 per cent of lead-off runners score while only 16 per cent of
the runners who reach with 1 out score..."

Not only is this a SIGNIFICANT statistic (rare indeed out of the
mouth of Tim) but it was mentioned at an appropriate time of
the game. WOW!

My personal favorite:

"That cheering you hear in the background is from [short pause]... Chicago
White Sox fans"
- Greg Gumbel, bottom of 9th inning, game 6 ALCS (in Chicago)

No duh!

Does anyone who listened to Tom & Jerry on the radio think they
were actually at last nights game? Every time a graphic came up
on CBS, Tom or Jerry would just read it over the radio -- I think
they were doing the game from Tom's living room watching it on TV!
