During the Dodgers/Reds game, a 6.1 earthquake rattled all of
southern california. Vin Scully didn't say a word on radio.
The Dodgers were rallying at the time and Darryl Strawberry
was at the plate.
Apparently, most of the fans were unaware of the quake, even
though it was a pretty big one. My place was shaking like
crazy, and I live only about 8 miles from the stadium.
The Dodgers wasted a million scoring opportunities and seemed
destined to lose. In the first 5 innings, Browning gave up
9 hits and at least 1 walk, but only 1 run. Amazing, huh?
He walked the first batter in the 6th, and was yanked. That
batter scored, so Browning ended up giving up 2 runs.
After the Dodgers tied the game 3-3 in the 6th, Lenny Harris
helped his former teammates with not one, but two errors
in the 7th (after the quake). Maybe Lenny felt it more than
the other players :-)
The errors contributed to the Reds winning run and Steve Wilson's
first loss as a Dodger. Tim Crews managed to pitch 1 1/3rd
innings without giving up a run, lowering his ERA to just
over 10!

On the all-news station in Philadelphia they played a segment of the
commentary from the Reds' announcers. They were basically saying "I think
we're having an earthquake. Yup, that's what that shaking is." They were
extremely calm about it. Amusingly enough in the background you could hear
the organist merrily playing away though the whole thing.
