Now the real fun starts. No not the shooting, but the tricky task of
finding the right kit, not spending too much, not drawing too much and
not buying random tat from Ebay because I can.

Sad to say, but I'm selling up ... Injury to neck/spine down t'pit may
years ago has come back with a vengeance ... can't hold my head
correctly, especailly when looking left or right ... thought to be a
slipped disc but much worse than that now ...
ebay 140338545285 for Hoyt Helix riser, see other items for other
stuff, all good condition, all well-kept and looked after, would
entertain offers from people I 'know', IYSWIM .. ;)

Only been shooting it for about a month, and the club have already
suggested I could benefit from some carbon or ali/carbon arrows and a
better rest (for tuning to the new arrows) than the Hoyt Super Pro I
currently have fitted.
Quite fancy either Beman ICS Energy or Gold Tip CAAs, and save the xx75
for winter indoors.
Looking at your listings there are a few lots I'm interested in.
I'll watch them and see how they go.

Personally I wouldn't, I'd stick to alloys, they're far more forgiving
of a poor shot than carbons, so while you're still learning the basics
they're easier to get along with and don't cost as much to replace!!
Took me well over a year before I shot carbons and got the consistency
I had with the X7's.

I had a set of Bemans ... for about two weeks ... couldn't get on with
them at all. Don't know why but compared to my X7's and ACC's which I
could shoot pretty well the Bemans just didn't seem matched and had
'interesting' flight paths. Not great quality 'feel' to the shafts
either .. ;)

You have a parcel .. ;)
I'll put the bracing gauge to good use as soon as it arrives.
The arrow tube will be stored lovingly until I take the plunge.
I would have gone for the rest and buttons too, but I know the Hoyt
fitting one wouldn't have fit the KAP riser.

They're in two separate packages, the gauges wouldn't fit in the tube
without forcing and I didn't want to do that!
Have fun .. ;)
Got the wax/tools but the arrow tube hasn't arrived yet. Typical
postoffice.
Wife took them all at the same time, but she did say that half the
parcels (we had 14) were put to one side and half went straight through
into the back! I would think you'll get it today or tomorrow.
Sorry, didn't expect any bother at all ...
Reasonable. Bloke from Ireland won after agreeing to pay extra postage
etc, so got 215 for it and another 35 ish to go on post, so not bad
.. ;)
He also bought the limbs and case as well, so I'm quids in really.
bugger. sorry to hear that.
I've been lax in reading newsgroups recently...
recently, for the first time in about 3 years or more, shot a PB on a
Portsmouth in practice.
This is something of a breakthrough, the score, although mediocre at 533, is
not only a PB but the highest score I've shot since moving from barebow to
freestyle.
most improvement recently has come from an effective technique to a) avoid
holding full draw too long and b) ensure that I come down if I do. This
derived from a remark from another archer that you only have about 5 seconds
at full draw (on a recurve) to make a decent shot, after that, the control
of the bow arm starts to deteriorate.
from this I decided that counting (approximate) seconds in my head might
help, so now once I'm on full draw and more and on-aim, more or less, I
start with 1...2...3...4...5 - and if I get to 5, I HAVE to come down and
abort the shot. This has had 2 good effects: 1) it means I DO come down,
not continue to hold at full draw and then do a bad shot, and 2) it speeds
my shooting: once I get to 3 I'm sort of thinking "come on, get a move on
and shoot it, you're running ouit of time"
I imagine that once I get used to the rhythm, it won't actually be necessary
to count any more.
