Gone straight from shooting 20 yards indoors and 12.5 yards in back
garden to first 'proper' outdoor tournament and loved it.
Shot 655, which isn't too bad I reckon for someone who's never shot 60
yards before .. well, 1 dozen arrows in fading light and rain on Friday
to get a sight mark, or 50 yards ... ditto. It was also first time I'd
used my (new to me) bow outdoors, a Hoyt Helix, and was dead chuffed it
even shot straight as it's been setup by myself, indoors only ... ;)
Only other times I've shot outdoors was with my old Yamaha bow over 40
yards but which had to have the windage set at each distance ... the
Hoyt just shot straight ... ;)
First two ends were crap ..28 and 28, but scored two ends of 50 (one at
60, one at 50 yds) and all the 50 yard ends scored above 44. 35 golds,
11 in 60 yards and 24 in 50 yards. I am well chuffed.
Can't wait for the next one. ;)

That'd be good, but as this is my first year I'm not being too
ambitious and probably only doing tournaments in South Yorkshire and
North Nottinghamshire. I've only entered one more so far, and that's
with my own club! ;)

I would ordinarily be coming to Kendal field shoot on 4th/5th May, but this
year I've decided not to, as steep courses are not doing me knees any good,
so they're on hold pending loss of avoirdupoids and increased fitness...
which may happen evenutally.
However, I reckon I can do target shooting, and as reagrds first seasons
it'll be the first time I've taken target at all seriously.
Been looking at the list. There's a York/Hereford/Bristols in Bradford on
4th May. normally, I'd be at Kendal for the field shoot, but I might do
this instead.
I've emailed the chap to see if there're any spaces left.

Blimey ... UKRM does archery!
My eldest and I have been shooting recurve since last July and did our
first competition (indoor) in March. He's just bought his first
proper bow, W&W Winact (same as mine, bought in January). We're both
going to try and increase our distances over the summer so that we can
try our hand at some 'proper' competitons.
Our club (Clophill Archery Club - http://www.clophillac.co.uk/) have a
big record status event in July (FITA Fest), so if you guys fancy a
visit to the soft southern shandy drinking region, give us a shout, be
good to see you in a non-UKRM capacity.

That's not too far away really ... I often have to go to Hemel
Hempstead, so it's within the realms. Dunno about doing a FITA round
though, I've never shot above 60 yards yet ... ;)

cool. see, there really are only 200 people on usenet.
Where's Clophill?
don't worry about it, they usually have a metal detector :-)
Fita is at 90, 70, 50 and 30m. York is at 100, 80 and 60 yds, although you
can wimp out and shoot a Hereford :-)
LOL

Heh, didn't know that. I really ought to check 'the lists'. ;)
Mind, given a month or so outdoors I'll move up a distance or two, see
how things go. My 'problem' is that I only shoot at 36# with a draw of
only 25", so effective weight of about 32 ish. I might be lucky to
make the longer distance with any semblance of accuracy. I won't buy
stronger limbs yet but am trying to develop technique, which is helping
gain yardage .. or rather, my sight marks keep raising as I shoot
'better', or at least higher on the target face, so I do seem to be
improving every time I shoot ... ;)
As the Bassetlaw tourney went on I raised my sights by about 1/4", 4
clicks, over the space of 4 dozen arrows, at each distance.

It seems like that sometimes for sure.

Deepest, darkest Bedfordshire ... halfway between Bedford and Luton on
the A6 :)

We have two! We also have our secret weapon ... 'Sniffer Sims' whose
lost arrow finding abilities are legendary.

I only shoot 38 lb limbs, albeit with a longer draw. You might need to fit
the sight closer to the bow or I've even seen them fitted inside the bow for
very low poundages and longer distances.
Teeheeheehee....was thinking roughly the same thing :p

What about our Evening TournaMENT then? Are you going to enter on the
9-July-2008?
For everyone else who doesn't know, Danum Archers are holding an Evening Shoot,
9 July 2008, sighters 6.30 PM and the round will be a National.
Entry forms are just being completed and will be posted onto our web-site later
this week.
Oh and it's the first tournament I will have organised so go easy Eh? :-)
Thanks.

Definitely. I've even booked an early finish that day to get there in
time, I don't finish till 6 usually.

Well, I'll be Oop North for Bronte Archers shoot on May 4th, along with the

pint.
