I've only been in the sport 2 years, so I was curious as to what happened.   If someone knows of a web page with the true story please post it.

Today (22Apr) I requested a song to be played on our local radio station.
Rod Stewarts "Forever Young".

I also say a little prayer for the people that were there just after the Otter
went down, trying to find their friends, or anybody, alive, in amongst the
carnage.

Go and give Mick the Pommy Packer a hug for me and tell him I'll be back soon

Okay, so, John Mitchell is my uncle. He used to infrequently visit us in the area east of Seattle and would always take us to that little air field in Issaquah and jump for us. That air field has been gone for maybe 15 years now, replaced by a movie theater and some stores. This would have been in the 1981-1985 range I guess. He had this trick.. where he would spin in a certain way and it looked like he fell into his parachute and it would always give his family a heart attack. Some kind of optical illusion. We were all there, I think Grandpa (his father) was still alive then, and at least two of his sisters, and my cousins.... maybe 5 or 6 of us kids. Good times. Then after jumping once or twice, the kids would be herded into the back of a truck, and he would take us all out to pizza and disappear for a few years again. We weren't a close family at all. I don't blame him for keeping his distance ;)

But I have a question: There is some folklore in our family that goes as following, as my mother tells it: "I went to the funeral in Perris and I met this guy named Pat and he said 'your brother taught me to parachute, he was a great guy, great instructor... blah blah blah'. Then I was back at work the following week and there was this magazine on a desk, and I screamed 'Oh my Goodness (She would really say that), I met Patrick Swayze at Johny's funeral!!! and I didn't even know it! He said his name was Pat!".

So I'm just asking. Please proof my family folklore here. Was Patrick swayze at the funeral?

I was not at the funeral. But I saw the VHS tape video that was made for the funeral. And I remember the song "forever young". I have no idea what happened to the video. Did anyone preserve it? I would be happy to pay for shipping and a tip if someone could provide that video to me in somekind of digital format.

Thank you.
Not so Anonymous (Anyone who knows my family at all knows exactly who is writing this).

Please read the post above, sorry for the double post. But if I post now, I should be automatically subscribed. I joined the group.

To the original poster who asked about it: My understanding is the wrong fuel was put in the plane, they did notice this mistake, the fuel was then removed and the correct fuel was put in. They started up the engines and it was running just fine. Then as it took off, just over the fence at the end of the airfield the bad gas (presumably in the fuel line or whatever which was not 100% removed) got in the engine, the engines stalled and it went down right over the fence and broke apart.

I remember there was a TV show about this and we watched it. Some kind of special on TV, but today I couldn't tell you what program it was or how to find it.

Teevee is garbage. Read the facts:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id=20001211X14468

N141PV was improperly fueled, and no contaminated fuel was removed prior to engine start.
The ground crew fucked up, and you can't change this with your revisionist history.

To be fair, the pilot fucked up too. When the right engine quit due to fuel
contamination, he feathered the left engine propeller instead.
