I am trying to get into skydiving and need some advice for buying
equipment. The guys who got me interested in juming told me not to buy
a high performance chute. They equated it to giving a ferrari to a 16
year old. I would like to avoid spending thousands on equipment which
I will want to upgrade when I start to really get into this. Is there
a middle ground? What should I know? Thanks.

First, get into skydiving before you start trying to figure out buying
gear. Don't put the cart before the horse. Make some jumps and get
either near to or off of student status before you go there. When you
do get to that point, talk to your jumpmasters and other experienced
skydivers at the dropzone. They will have a far better understanding
on what would be suitable for your future needs.

What you should know is, if money is an issue, consider purchasing
used gear - it's going to take abuse - have a rigger and/or very
experienced skydivers check the gear out for quality & suitability for
your needs vs. price. Getting to the point of upgrading is not a
race. Further, buying gear, new or used, will only be the just one
instance in a long line of instances where you will be spending lots
of money to enable you to skydive. Sometimes you can sell off the
older gear you don't use anymore and recoup some investment, sometimes
you can't. Don't sweat it. Better to spend more for what suitable
than to sacrifice suitability to save some bucks. Your JM's will be
able to discern for you and explain to you what is suitable.

Good luck!

Bullshit! rent till you get at least your A lic kid. That way you will
be able to make a informed judgement on what you might want to buy and
who from, otherwise it was fairly good advice
coming from a total self centered young asshole like Jerry. <evil grin>

As if you're some experienced skydiver or something. You're not and
never were. Nothing wrong with waiting until the A license except for
the reality that people need to make 50 jumps before they can get that
license and that's a bunch of jumps renting. Nothing wrong with
renting, either but it is, when taking past posts of yours into
consideration, quite a contradiction of your previous lines and stands

Nothing wrong with considering options, either but the idea of no one
should ever buy equipment until they have reached that concrete A

curious about WHAT equipment he should consider and it stands to
reason that the JM's and experienced skydivers he would be in contact

Not gonna argue about it, the kids thinking about taking up the sport
so its moot.
Just trying to give him some time...Ya don't need to own gear to jump,
we both know that.
I had too many rigs myself but I had a couple of different interests

Yeah and the longer he's around the dz the more he will learn who and
who not is trustworthy----plus he will see other canopys in action and
have a better ideah on what he might want------>now what one want's and
what one needs is two different things...this is where I'm hoping the
true DZ wizzards have some input-----50 jumps? YEAH the more jumps the
better----it will give the true older wizzards more time to look him
over and make a value judgement on present & potential skills. Good
thing they raised the A from 20 to 50 I'm thinking ;)

Heheheh - when someone asks about WHAT gear, and gets answered with
checking with his instructors/JM's/ect. for the best info and you get
all bitchy about how this should really be a question of about WHEN -
ain't me, the JM/Instructor/ect. recommender, demanding someone else

the prozac ain't doing you a bit of good.

Well, it is kinda hard to top your argument up to now which consists
of you merely writing, "Bullshit" plus some whiny stuff.

>Just trying to give him some time...

As if time is yours to give, pretension boy...er...kid. He wonder
about equipment. He get told to check with the more experienced
people where he jumps. You just say he should wait until some
uncertain time before he even considers the idea. Okay - At the time
how long were you jumping, how many jumps you had, and what licenses
had you already acquired (if any) before you started considering WHAT
to get for equipment.

>Ya don't need to own gear to jump,

Sure, but it helps. In a variety of areas it makes it more possible
and in the long run, it's just plain smarter.

>I had too many rigs myself but I had a couple of different interests

What, you had two? So, if you had two rigs and a couple of different
interests, one interest predicating a 7 cell for some reason, how is
have two, too many?

But then, your "way of thinking" has been often been illustrated as
being the stuff of morons. Hehehheh - weren't you earlier whining
about and blaming your ability in managing to scrape together one
standup landing in 81 jumps on, how's it go, "student no-porosity
canopies?"

>Save
>them at least one downsize depending on several things

I think what we got going on here is you just wanting to have the
affirmation of more people jumping Falcons. You know, "a favorite
canopy of AFF student programs at many dropzones." That Falcon. You
want people to be jumping them longer in the meeger hopes that this'll
keep them from "downsizing," (cue ominous thunder). Nevermind that
the person with the question is asking about WHAT gear to start with -
not downsizing.

And, ummm - getting information at the local dz where he is learning
*isn't*, you know - enabling the ability to make and informed
judgement about those things. What's a matter Jinnie - afraid the guy
is gonna stand up a landing before he gets off student status? That
it? Or is it you're worried he'll blow off those student Falcons
after a couple stand ups in favor of some PD square? That it?

>Yeah and the longer he's around the dz the more he will learn who and

This is not to say that if he starts considering getting gear for
himself at some point before you were ever in a position to do that,
that he will somehow not be around the dz, ostensibly not getting that
who and who is not trustworthy intel (which really just sounds a lot
like dz political hooie you're gargling there, Jinnie.) You ever
think that he might, while considering gear, present this gear to, you
know, a rigger, other experienced skydivers, JM's, ect - get their
spin on what would suit his needs? Or does he need experience and
intel as to just who the "trustworthy" recommenders of WHEN to start
considering gear are? That it?

>plus he will see other canopys in action and
>have a better ideah on what he might want

Sure, he'll see canopies coming fast and slow, steep and shallow,
trucks and sports cars. Seeing's believing but that said, you saying
him just observing what's out there landing and being packed is a
better indicator on what is suitable for him than, you know, the
people who are teaching him and jumping with him who might have an
idea as to what is suitable than just WHAT he sees, nevermind your
pretension of somehow knowing just when this WHEN actually should
occur.

>------>now what one want's and
>what one needs is two different things...this is where I'm hoping the
>true DZ wizzards have some input

Gee, you think they don't? And even if they don't, that's this
platitude of hope somehow is relevant? Your hope here is just more
coiled bluster. So, g'head, Jinne - you go ahead on just how much you
hope the "true DZ wizzards have some input," and, of course, how they
clearly won't because this is now and now is no good, now that you no
longer can.

>----50 jumps? YEAH the more jumps the
>better----

Like, how much. 80? Wait, Since you ostensbly first stood one up
under a Falcon AFF student canopy, and students might well be using
the Falcon while they ponder WHEN to begin equipment pondering, one
would imagine that they might stand up their first landing in
something less than 80 jumps - and you wouldn't like that. Now if
they are jumping old, ragged out "no-porosity" student canopies like
the ones you were unable to stand up...wait a sec - there are numerous
examples of students standing up ragged out student canopy (nevermind
the porosity, porous or no) in under 80 jumps so, no - you're just
hoping he buys a Falcon from the dropzone. That it?

>t will give the true older wizzards more time to look him

#1 We neither one know who his teachers will be...and not all are good,
some are just in it for the beer & money like you and your little
friends. Being around a while will give the kid
something to temper all the input with...Final decision is the jumpers
after all, nobodys
shoving him out of the airplane & unless he's a Tandem wennie its his
show when it comes to managing the canopy.

the Team at the time? I looked the A up online, its 25. Don't seem
right to raise the A only 5 and the D by 300------Oh well the BOD
always has to fuk somebody I guess. It kinda screws the coachs & future
D's though.....maybe they realized that was a bad idea and they were
creating to many skygods too too quick--- What they should have done
was raised the A to 50 then upped the B & C a few readjusting the D to
about 250 then allow no one under a D to coach, no endorcement
involved. Somebody needs to cut their donuts off at those meetings. I'm
thinking sugar shock effects their thinking....At first I thought it
was the GM plan that corrupted their thinking and it was for a long
time----but just raising the A by 5 jumps kinda screws the GM/DZO's cuz
they cain't get kickbacks on coaching jumps as long seems to me. and
they stepped on their own dicks cuz being $20 whores, theirs a longer
lag on the $20 pops between C & D now.Shit maybe they need to pay me to
coach their politically correct butt's-----------

Like, you have a fucking clue as to what would be a good start for
anyone, let alone some nameless individual you have never met, seen,
been in the air with, or observed landing. Give it up, dingleberry -
you're just guessing and the guy's instructors, do ya think that they
might just be a bit more qualified and INFORMED than your provenly and
demonstratively propensity for uninformed, if not boneheaded,
supposition, suggestion, and decision, nevermind action?

Nevermind that you had already missed the boat as to WHAT and had
already gone off on a crying jag concerning WHEN. Now you got it all
figured out that he needs to load a Falcon at over 1.5: 1 or maybe a
ZP canopy? Carefull Jinnie - you don't like ZP, remember? Puts the
canopy pilot into a whole new realm of political incorrectness.

That, as in every sentence and assertion above? Well, actually, no.
I still find it hard to believe you were so without the ability to
listen to your instructors or to just plain learn that you took 80
jumps before you stood one up.

Hell, what with how long it took you to stand one up as an indicator
of future time in the sport, you should still be jumping and continue
on perhaps long after anyone in "USPA2000" would ever be capable.
I think you're just here giving expression to your fear.

Which is pretty much what I said in the first place, dinglberry,
metaphor and all. Guy asks about WHAT and you start flapping your
wrists about WHEN and further, start opining about who is
"trustworthy" or not. Skydiving was just one, giant, and bitter pill

While this may well be accurate in the general sense, this is not to
say that they all are not "good," and further, so you got this fear
now that the suggestion that he check with his instructors at the dz
that he'll automatically be submitting himself to the will of what
potentially might not be "good." You want to tell us who he should
talk to? No, wait - you've already demonstrated your pretension of
knowing better than anyone else by asserting the idea that he should
get himself a Falcon or a Triathlon. Yep, Jinnie knows better than
the people who know the guy, jumping with him, and at the dz. <feel

No, that's not true. Me and my friends are in it for the sole purpose

Right, and the suggestion was that he not decide on things now but to
talk to the more experienced people at the dropzone but this isn't
good enough for your politically motivated emotions. You gotta make a
point of bitching about some element which, because the idea of their
existance being outside the realm of what you prefer, must therefore
be geared up to do nothing but provide advice, information, or even
gear which might fall outside of the realm of gear you prefer - all
the height of political correctness. How 'bout this - why not a
Falcon? I mean, it's a canopy of preference for AFF training at many
dropzones. You got a problem if some skydiver with video experience
who never met the guy wondering about gear suggests that canopy for
him?

To the guy wondering about gear:

Yo! You need a Falcon! What's that? You flew one a few times and
were underwhelmed? Your instructors suggesting some other canopy's
more suitable? To hell with them - what do they know? I've skydived
in the 90's and you need a Falcon!

This is little more than comforting rhetoric on your part. You're not
on dropzones and haven't been to a single one in years. You have no
clue and no basis for contemporary experience. I mean, you might have
some empirical experience based on the short time you were in the
sport which concluded for the greater part more than ten years ago,
but if you want to cite that fact as the cornerstone of your
experience supporting that idea, then you have to admit that back when
you were jumping that the "money grubbers" far outnumbered the
instructors who might well have been in a position to provide for the
person wondering about gear good input, if it were not for these said
"money grubbers." Which, of course, casts your whole "how great it
was in the 90's" train of rhetorical bullshit, pretty much down the
toilet - where it should have gone in the first place.

>it takes time to
>sort out who's
>real and who's just greedy----the sports filled with passive agressives

See above - what you assert vs. what is real has a divergence factor
of rhetorical proportions. How 'bout those 90's, eh?
U-fucking-topia, uh huh.

No, you hope you do because that provides for you some level of having
an effect, a lame demonstration of "power," and in reality, it's just
a cry for help. No, it's more towards amusement than bother but what
you have a problem with is the idea that it's not so much people
laughing with you but the worry that some might be laughing at you.
This is, you forget, performance art at its most absurd. Relax and
try to ignore the mutually assured killfile.

>and if experiance tells me
>anything.....its that
>you are not alone.

As was so often demonstrated in the past, has so often been
highlighted in here, and will with little doubt be often demonstrated
in the future, what experience tells you and what it taught you are,
while often comparable, hugely impractical.

comfortably numbing article of faith away?

Keeping banging your head against that wall Jinnie - saying it's so
don't make it so - as it has so often been demonstrated in the past.
I never even brought up that team's medal - someone else did. The
medal in question's classification was pointed to on the website, if
you bothered to look at the website. And, not only that, when the
medal was mentioned by someone else and the supposed "forgetting to
mention" which you are alluding to here was supposedly made, it
concerned a medal earned by a team I was not on. Shit Jinnie, I think
I've probably neglected to mention the probably thousands of skydivers
who have likely earned tens of thousands ot medals over the years but
let's just focus on one here - how 'bout that "National Medal" of
yours and the not just once but often not described as being earned at
a POPS meet, eh? It was the subject at hand, afterall, when Kallend
had his question about the classification of that medal mentioned
which was earned by that team I was not on, as if the supposed
existance of such in any way lessened the reality that you had on
numerous occasions forgotten to mention your medal's classification.

So, it's the supporting crutch angle today. Got news for ya, Jinnie -
you ain't the first or even only "seriously old" individual out there
- it doesn't make you unique or special. Hell, there's some
"seriously old" skydivers still out there jumping and having a great
time at it.

>As far as saying what you want when you get
>old, I've been doing that since I got out
>of the military 36 years ago so nothing has changed there....

Shit, with your habit of regularly stepping in it, seems more like
it's not so much a matter of saying what you want but more along the
lines of not having any control over the matter.

>Yup Old
>Age ain't all its
>cracked up to be, specially if you're trying to communicate with USTA
>Drama Queens
>like yourself....

Naw, you can't lay off that inability on age nor can it be laid off on
that which you're supposedly trying to communicate with. That's all a
reflection of your own inabilities but that sad reality comes down to
personal responsibility, a concept decidedly foreign, if not repellant
to you if past example is any indicator. You've been trying to do it
on the cheap in some corner of the usenet, clearly preferring the
medium because of the total lack of risk and clear amount of safety
there is, hiding behind a computer screen. Nope, it's not old age but
no balls which is keeping you from attempting your act live on a
dropzone - you know, the real world as opposed to this electronic
newsgroup.

>I mean here are some young guys in their 20's 30's and
>40's that
>fall apart like teenage girls & start whining instead of sucking it up
>and acting like men.

Sorry, Jinnie - as much as you like typifying the absolute rejection
of your bullshit as anything other than what it is by describing it as
representitive of perhaps some weaker caste or supposedly lesser
segment of society, this still does not change the absolute rejection
of said bullshit, nor does it change the rationale behind the
rejection. You want people to stand around and listen, give attaboys,
and nod their head in affirmation of whatever personna of the day or
moment you're trying to present here then you might consider trying
your act somewhere where your words said in the past, nevermind the
numerous and past boneheaded maneuvers in skydiving, are not realized,
remembered, or even retrievable to wave in your face as a counterpoint
to whatever bit of hemmoroidal crap you happen to be shrieking about
at the moment

>tsk tsk tsk----you don't know the joy it gives me to work yawl into a

Oh, I gotta idea. It's pretty much descended to the affirmation
dingleberrys revel in because someone is taking the time to give them
attention, nevermind the nature of the attention coming down to
pedantic ridicule, disdain, and disrespect. One of those, "No such
thing as bad press," things, I guess. That said----you don't know the
joy it gives me to rake self-absorbed dingleberries over the coals
with, in part and in combination: reality, perspective, and their own
words, and watch them do the monkey dance. Dance Monkey!

Seems to me you just enjoy the prospect of making something mad - it's
an affirmation kinda thing - "I inflicted some pain and made something
mad ~life is good~." All comes down to needing to feel like you have
some sort of meaning. Pretty sad when that feeling of meaning is only
induced by the hope that you have induced some pain because you hope
pain makes things mad - none too zen, Buda Kup. That said, sorry
Jinnie - it's amusement, pure and simple. If you really shot me with
a BB pistol (as if), that would likely piss me off like you hope you
did that squirrel - maybe you should ask the squirrel how it felt
about it to be sure - probably pain and the squirrel equivalent of
surprise would pretty much cover the gamut of squirrel emotion, I'm
thinking, but as for me - all you been firing my way have been big,
fat, lazy nerf-balls which, no matter how powered they are out of your
plastic BB pistol of a mind with the compressed hot air of your
dingleberry conviction, said nerf-ball deacellerates to near nothing
once it leaves that short and remarkably inaccurate barrel, traversing
highly frictional reality between you and whatever you're trying to
target. Your aim's none too good, either, as recently evidenced by
your earlier bit of bitching regarding WHEN to consider gear, when the
question was about WHAT.

I don't think wine coolers had been invented back then but the CPO

They're just words and nothing more. Doublespeak is something else
entirely. Aside from also being somewhat "fancy and important"
sounding itself, it's essentially saying shit which hides or even
kinda misrepresents something - now, who in this conversation has
~often~ been busted for that sort of thing? I wonder. Wanna tell us
again about your bronze medal, Jinnie? Maybe do a little hiding of
its Pops affilliation while misrepresenting it as a National Medal won
at a National meet? I can cite the examples again and it wasn't this
dumbass who was bragging about his National Medal to people who read
the RV newsgroup. Or maybe I'm misrepresenting, here. You wanna set
me straight on what was up with that? You know, read to me what's
between those lines you've often asserted others can't read between?
Or is the reading between the lines angle tantamount to doublespeak?

You should fix it up and give it to some needy skydiver or even donate

Yuh I don't talk to RV'er's or use their board, must have been a cross
post when we were
dissingeach others medals & awards years ago. Some of the rich old
bastards are even more anal than you kid.
I lived among them after the Beaumont incident---at least till I could
walk on my cast--then I took off for the deep woods. Most of them are
citified Yankee's and political as hell. Got their little useless
dogs---so being the diplomat I am I sez "If a damn dog don't hunt or
work livestock you should kill & eat the yap arsed things, here I'll do
it for you!." Whoa WRONG. Their substitute children to city people. ;)
Talk about being on some civilized peoples shit list Zowee! And all
their men are whipped. "Yes dear, no dear, you are 100 percent right
dear!" Geez might as well cut yer balls off and be in jail at the same
time. "I don't want to see you with the man, he cuss's, hunts, drinks
and even eats family pets." Bullshit the coyotes was getting them damn
miniature dogs. Like the skydiving culture--quite a few are nice. Their
just afraid of the political block association types....You know the
busybody's that want to run things at any cost---used to getting their
way or else...Nope Nope no RV post's. I'm a free spirit---No group of
city Pansy's are going to run my life. Building consensus or talking
bad about me don't work-----I revel in being a old rascal. Could care
less what a group of city sheep think about me---Calling it like I see
it is more important. BTW A POP's Nationals scramble is harder than
that team shit yawl pratice at all the time. You jump with people you
may only see at the Nationals, quite a few from small cessna dz's.
After the draw you have one night to creep the dives cuz next day is
crunch time. The video geeks are pool, likly never jumped with them
either----their generally good though. That any points at all are put
together is amazing. Thus I will always rate someones POPS National
Medal above USPA National RW medals. Seems to me, with all that
pratice together you should be able to walk away with more....probably
has a lot to do with being young hussy's needing sugar daddys to pay
your way. Us we just bought our jump tickets went out and had fun.
Shucks the Canadians were there competing, I artta call mine a
International medal! BWAAAAAHAHAHAHA 0~;)P

Nevermind you've been mining that bit of rhetorical bullshit for years
while the sport continues to grow and branch out in increasing
variety.

>cuz unless they make their one jump and walk away with their

No one gets sold a thing unless they're willing to buy and the
motivations behind that will are beyond yours or anyone's control,
other than the people making the decision to have something sold to
them. Free or don't need - feel free to throw some examples out
there, why doncha? I'll be sure to shoot 'em down.

>Won't need video's again till they have
>enough jumps to recognize their body mistakes on film.

Unles they feel they need it, nevermind the reason. Could be they
just wanna relive the skydive...or show it to friends...or maybe a
keepsake. Whatever the reason, not for you or anyone else to
determine for them whether they need or don't need something so benign
as a video.

>Any good JM or
>coach can watch them in the air and tell them what they need to correct

Yeah, but this is not to say video can't be a usefull tool in that
regard. For that matter, I wanna see this "good" coach or JM that
goes over to people's houses and describes the skydive to the jumper's
friends and families (while humming a catchy tune, no less) at their
leisure and not only that, be around for when the jumper, anytime he
wants to, decides to have the skydive described to him again, over and
over, moment to moment. I wanna see this coach who goes up and
watches the dive, from solo to bigway, and remembers exactly what
occurred, when, where, even describing in exact detail, without
forgetting ever what he observed.

>but you are probably still going to be trying to shove video down their
>throat on slow days eh?

Probably? Well maybe or maybe not but you'll just have to get to a dz
to know for sure. But then, the fantasy is sure to be more comforting
than the reality, eh? May as well save the gas.

Well, I dunno about that, what with all that shoving videos down
throats you've been imagining. If skydivers aren't forcing people to
have video, well - must be some other motivational factor going on
which provides the reality of some skydives being graced with video.

>the system works similar to the DZ
>if you think about it though----PAY UP FRONT or else some pimp collects
>for her later SHIT

Funny thing about that, when I get compensated for delivering
requested video it's either at the end of the day or at the end of the
weekend. Do you think that word might get around that someone was
tacking on extra charges? Think that geek would get many people
requesting video in the future? Would this not scuttle any and all
plans for the Destruction of Skydiving and Ruining of the Sport (tm.)?

>we better quit discussing it. the vice squad might
>show up out there and arrest yer ass for being a whore.

Yeah, and monkeys might fly outta your ass, too.

>um mm lets see that would make the DZO a madam so WHOS YOUR PIMP?

Let's see, I guess if the pimp is the entity that "protects" the
worker while taking most of the cut, as well as arranging for the
goods & services for compensation transactions to occur, then it's
probably just reputation, except to say reputation can't "protect" the
worker if the worker doesn't deliver, nor does it exact any proportion
of the compensation. Which union outfit was your pimp? Did your
clients call you madam?

Is this doublespeak going on here? I think it is. You neglected to
mention the occurance of you briefly coming out of retirement with the
intention of getting back to your 120 or so jumps/year (not that your
limited years in the sport averaged anywhere close to that, but that's
by the by) and due to a variety of circumstances, most having to do
with your refusal to think things through, it was immediately after
the unretirement that you retired, and for good.

So, let's recap - you go around popping off BB's at squirrels, which
you say you enjoy because it makes them mad, and along with this
strange method of exacting enjoyment, you're also saying there's an
art in not letting shooting BB's at squirrels get to you? Or, are you
saying that you shoot BB's at squirrels so to teach them some zen. I
mean, I haven't learned a bit of your brand of patently bullshit zen
as demonstrated by the nerf-balls you shoot out of that BB-like mind
of yours, except to say there is indeed zen to be had in watching
nerf-balls drift on in, knowing their screwy parabola in it's flight
into and through reality has more to do with nerf-ball's relative lack
of substance than with reality's friction.

Yep - same helmet. Fullface camera helmet - he only had one. Was
already using the protec set up when I first started jumping but he
still had it and I remember it well. And I jumped it. Not only that,
I jumped it before you did and guesses for grabs whether the lining
had been replaced between that time and when you wore it so it's
entirely possibly that some of me was still lurking in there the last
time you put it on. Hell, since Art didn't use it it's entirely
possible that the last person to jump it before you, could very well
have been me - but we'll never know for sure.

>we got nothing in common other than liking

You're certainly not from Texas, that's a definite non-commonality.

>NONE OF YOUR

Hell, who here's getting prissy about cooties? Heheheheh - you
worried about some little benign cooties? I'm thinking there might
have left maybe a strand of my hair or two, perhaps a little dandruff
and possibly some dried up sweat that coulda still been lurking inside
Art's helmet with you.

>God forbid any sky god cooties
>got on me at all,

Shit, with the way you go on about yourself, any skygod cooties mashed
against your head when you wore Art's helmet woulda been quickly
overwhelmed by all of your own. No worries though - it probably
didn't specifically get on you, anyway - more likely just absorbed.

Ya know where you sat in the plane before your last jump? It's a sure
bet I sat there as well, many times, sometime between 1996 and 1999.

Carefull, Jinnie - I think there might be some posts you made, and not

Which is a fine sentiment, indeed but there's not much to be said for
calling things as you see it about subjects you are remote from
because that descends into the realm of calling it as you don't see it
or calling it as you guess it because, as remote as you are, you don't
see it and can only guess.

Whoopty shit, Jinnie. You feel a little more affirmed by this
realization of yours or was it meant for someone else to feel less
affirmed, pehaps? Either way, I'm happy for you. One jump in one
meet and you got a Pops bronze out of it - why you feel you gotta gas
about how much "harder" it mighta been. Feeling a little beat upon?
Feel you gotta pump it up and cheerlead it? Catch some zen and let

Ya know, all the meets I've been at - strangely enough - the draw is
the night before and you have until before each load the next day to
creep 'em. Sorry, Jinnie - you're one competition jump doesn't make
you special, beyond the singularity of the experience.

>The video geeks are pool, likly never jumped with them

The difference between pool video and not is if the pool geek screws
up the team gets a rejump whereas there wouldn't be a rejump with a
team geek. The team geek will likely know the count better and
understand the nuances of how his team might launch a certain
formation but beyond that, most geeks who shoot a lot of rw can
recognize what's going on and remain ahead of the curve.

it? Shit, Jinnie - I've been lucky enough to make more competition

Probably a smammer's most worthless response. Who says we read it?
Some people still pay for everything that shows up on the server.

Actually, to a great extent, we all do.

So far, not counting the first two, Snuffy 21, Jerry 18.

How many posts would he make if you didn't reply to the great majority?

Well not Lodi Mike, he's a dyed in the wool Bush man and I'm suspecting
a lifetime Republican. Its nice to see him posting again...At least you

But the most practical action - puts the person with the problem into
the driver's seat. Whadya want? "Oh, please excuse my faux paux?"

>Who says we read it?

Hell, who says you (3rd person you) got a problem with it? Call it a
tenuous connection of dots but if there's a response to a post and
perhaps to the ideas or even words within the post, it appears to me
it's been read. Now, admittedly someone else coulda read it and
related it on to someone else but who says it isn't read - I mean, by
those who haven't bothered with kill filing the author or the thread?
Sure, I'Il admit it was a dumb assumption on my part.

>Some people still pay for everything that shows up on the server.

Then if money is the issue then it would seem a no brainer stay in
that driver's seat and killfile those most likely to be jacking up the
costs.

>
>Actually, to a great extent, we all do.

Tell ya what, one time offer and take it to the bank, - dingleberries
are inelligible - Anyone who reads this shit and feels like they're
being ripped off, if you catch up with me at a dz and tell me you're
paying for everything that shows ups on the server and you want some
compensation, I'll be happy to buy you a beer or a soft drink or a
glass of milk if you prefer - no shit. Come down to Texas or meet me
at Eloy in a week or so - I'll be there for the 4way competition.

Yeah, but who's counting, eh?

>

You'd have to ask him - I can only hazard a guess based on past
experience, but I do remember clearly, long before I weighed in, that
the dingleberry posted a lot, and it wasn't just the tit for tat,
maybe a couple two or three long threads here like now, but initiating
numerous threads, lots of trolling, ect. Numerically speaking it's
probably pretty close to what it's ever been, barring times where he
wasn't bothering to post at all - and I don't seem to remember too
much of people trying to call him out of his hole during those various
episodes - certainly not myself, that's for sure. That said, him
invoking me? Happens on an all to regular basis, but I don't have a
problem with it, just some perspective. To answer your question,
likely just as much, if not more. It is what it is, Mike. I was
enjoying the quiet, kinda bemused but ultimately bored with the
crossposters, I give a fair answer to a fair question about what gear
to get and dingleberry just has to leap in, doing the monkey dance.
Hell, who am I to deny him probably one of the few pleasures he might
have left? Besides, he's a better dancer when he's got someone who
can lead to guide him across the floor.

If you got Art's fullface and wore it on your last jump, unless
someone else jumped it after I did but before you did, and I don't
remember him loaning it out to anyone else while I was at Beaumont,
but I wan't there every weekend, just most weekends, then it's really

helmet to some needy dz because no matter how much you try to ignore
the supposition, there will always be that sliver of doubt - it's
entirely possible. I remember Art pointing to it on that table in the
corner of the video room at Beaumont and saying feel free to jump it
and try it on, like it was yesterday.

Nope, there is only one dingleberry on this newsgroup and it's clearly
not Mike.

Remember you gassing about 1800-SKYDIVE. How they were ripping people
off, ect? Remember Mike trying (valiantly) to clue you in that you
must have it confused with 1800-SKYRIDE? For all practical purposes
you told him to eat shit and die - and he was just trying to throw you

It is, as I've often said, Perofrmance Art at its Most Absurd. I
don't defend it nor do I regale it. It is what it is but this is not
to say that the perpetrators are artists, by a huge stretch,
impressionistic at very best and even that's a stretch.

Don't recall Mike being involved in that rant, I do recall some Intel
on the two numbers though. And it was, they were run by the same
group....More complaints were filed on the skydive one because it was
tied to Tandems, people were not told the locations until their credit
cards were charged----then the place might be 300 miles away. It was a
scam, unfortunately a few DZ's were using the service which worked like
a brokerage. Sky ride?
ummm I'd have to go through my pl-int for that but basically,
overpriced and the same tactics---No reflection on Lodi or Mike but
just because they may have been using the service doesn't mean its
validated----They were just pawns the developers were using.
Scam Artists usually keep the bulk of the money if not all so I doubt
any participating
DZO's except the young suspects that dreamed it up over in Georgia &
Alabama made much out of it---or got many students out of the deal for
that matter. Deals like this are based on the Ponzi scheme. and work in
much the same way so although people sucked in might believe in the
system....only the first tier or originators get anything out of it,
everybody else is left holding the bag...Mike has a Republican soul so
I wouldn't have listened to him on a matter like this anyway

That's right -- you respond about 1.13 times for each post he's made
since 2002. When you were spouting off about the use of a killfile,
you obviously weren't talking about either Jimmy or I, since you
repsond to both, as well as DJMike (a.k.a. "MoM"). You're the
"fuckwit" that's causing the trouble in this newsgroup. Jimmy is just
an ex-jumper that's shooting his mouth off, as everyone has a right
to..

That'd be you. You don't know how to use your killfile, so you respond
to every single (* 1.13) post he makes.

> Yap dog, pedantic lawyer, fish on a hook - call it what you will.

You equate yourself to either a lawyer or a fish? If you said "shit"
I'd agree with you. A lawyer residing at the bottom of the cesspool of
humanity is far above you,

> I see it as performance art at its most absurd ...

No one would call your posts "art" by any measure whatsoever. You're
one of the people that drags the sport and this newsgroup down into
the gutter of whoredom. Spurgeon is another one by virtue of the
endless tandems he does at exhorbitant prices, for the sole purpose of
lining his and Dause's (a.k.a. Lodi's) pockets.

I agree with Jimmy that people like all of you are bad for the sport.
Parasites on the sport, you are.

Wait a minute now, I'm not down on Mike or Lodi...Just true Tandem
Mills. Lodi runs a lot of Tandems through. a hundred to hundred and
twenty a week but a tandem mill to me is one that discourages licenced
skydivers from Jumping. Dause has a lot of lift power and I doubt he
does that.....his page offers S/L & ATP (AFF) as alternatives and their
not GM although their
instructors are USPA licenced. To me that is not a true Tandem Mill,
just a DZ that offers Tandems....I hear he is a bit prickly but hell
who ain't in this sport....You deal with mostly Type A personalities,
while probably being one yourself....That's enough to make anybody
pricky. And Mike? Sure I don't agree with his political views all the
time but that is the American way and true he is a TM/JM. Probably some
kind of JM/I on top of that, don't know how many ratings he
has....irregardless he's been around long enough to teach a lot of
students. The DZ has been around since about 1964....I'm not going to
slur it or its staff. Jerry K is definitely a whore though.....OK I
feel better now, carry on with the fight...no hitting below the belt,
that's my specialty! 0~;->

Since when has bringing up the idea of a killfile as a resolution
towards limiting or eliminating repellant posts (or threads) present
for viewing on an electronic newsgroup indicative of less than a
vestige of a brain? Seems like an obvious solution to me. One person
suggests the posts are costing, people are paying. I say if that's an
issue, eliminate the cost and the pay by eliminating the repellant
posts.

Catch up with me as in find me. Sheesh, what I said earlier but
understand the term, "catching up" translates to approach and
communicate.

Gee, that hurts. Are you leveling such gnashing towards making a

What, caught dead? Oh, I'll be caught dead someday, I'm sure but
hopefully (knock wood) it woon't be for a long time. As for paying
for skydives and the idea of not being caught dead doing that, as I
understand it, translating not caught dead to just not doing, you're
wrong. But then, what if you're right? What if I wouldn't be caught
dead paying for jumps? Yu got a problem with the idea or maybe a
point? Just curious. If you do have a problem, I'm curous what
you're gonna do about it and if you got a point, I'm certianly curious
to hear it.

Naw, I don't think he's a nazi or is looking to strike any
constitutional amendments. Probably just looking to join in on the
"fun," which is entirely fine by me - the more the merrier. You can
tell him to read between the lines and I'll do the same old shit I do,
too.

I've never had to pay extra for any posts, newsgroups, downloads, ect
on the usenet or the web, much less ever heard of some isp charging
extra. Still, I suppose it's possible. Sucks to have that kinda
"service", I guess.

Good point, actually. Actually, there may well be (I hope not) but I
was really just referring to you, of course. But then, you get your
ass out to a dz or Eloy and while I wouldn't expect you to accept,
I'll at least offer to get ya a drink since you got off your ass and
made the effort. Shit, Peanut's gonna love this - I just promised you
a drink. If it will make you feel any better I'll likely stick my

map before I weighed in. Now it's just a couple two or three threads
that go on forever. I'm sure that if I didn't do the deconstruction
dance and give you a ration of shit, you be still at it, ad naseum.

Is that a real figure or just made up? Near as I can recall, he makes
one and likely I find something to nail him on and back and forth it
goes. If you look at the number of threads he's initiated vs. mine, I
think you'll see a huge disparity in number (since we're talking
numbers, here).

Hell, Dave - I think anyone's who had a problem I've suggested the
killfile as a viable solution.

Is it really trouble, Dave? I mean, I can happily accept the
"fuckwit" moniker, no argument there, but trouble??? It's just a
bunch of posts. How is this trouble?

>Jimmy is just

Granted. But this is not to say that I'm not a current jumper without
the right to shoot my mouth off, eh? Even if I didn't have that right
- I still have the ability, the means, and the will. I don't do it as
a dare for anyone to stop me, Dave, but can any reasonable person
expect to stop me (or anyone else) short of a killfile? It's the
usenet, brother - nature of the beast. You wanna moderate it without
killfiling or the power to kick people out, that's fine by me. I wish
you luck.

No, you're wrong. Some whuffo wanted some info and ideas. That was
the top of the thread. Then I responded with info and ideas - this
was 2nd. Jinnie leapt in right after that with the fuckwith - #3, and
as ever, it degenerated from there. As for killfiling ability, of
course I know how and can - I just choose not to but that said, I also
don't complain about the bandwidth, either or liken it to "trouble."

Damn, Dave, call that what you will as well - I never said I was proud
of it - I was just trying to describe it. I've always thought
perofrmance art was one of the more lame-o pseudo-arts out there.

>You're
>one of the people that drags the sport and this newsgroup down into

Sure, Dave - and we are Legion. Seriously, though - skydiving stands
on its, and I believe that. Someone giving someone else shit on a
skydiving newsgroup doesn't matter in the slightest as far as the idea
of dragging the sport down, or even raising it up. As for the
newsgroup itself, oh yeah - things could be better, no doubt, but when
you get down to it, it's the usenet, it's unmoderated, and I don't
give a shit. Fortunately, there are mechanisms for avoiding and
removing that which drags a newsgroup down into the gutter of
whoredom, or anywhere else. Hint: relying on catchy sound-bites like
"gutter of whoredom," ain't one of them, near as I can tell.

>Spurgeon is another one by virtue of the

It's a fact - tandems bring skydivers into the sport. I see this as a
good thing. Personally, I'm scared to do tandems - had a tandem
master lobby me just this past weekend to get that rating but I'm not
gonna do it anytime soon. Anyway, pricing is his (or Lodi's)
business, and no one elses. If it's too expensive, people can take it
elsewhere. I'm guessing there are other purposes beside the sole
pocket lining one. Benefit of the doubt and all, but I'm guessing
people gotta eat, pay bills, maybe retire someday.

That's fine, Dave. I'm glad you're at least taking a position. That
said, what are you doing to make the sport better? Are you back

In reference to Spurgeon and tandems at Lodi.....they happen to have
the lowest priced tandem rates in the country.
Lodi is a "real" dropzone.

And I haven't done *anything* just for the money since 1979.

If Bill Dause is 'lining his pockets', he's doing it by providing $15
jumps to 13000' ($13 if bought 50 at a time) and $500 first jump courses
which include 10 jumps and many extras.

If Ferree knows of anything better, I trust he'll mention it.

You request...I deliver.

It's long.so time to crack a cold one...sit back.and as before.please enjoy
the journey.

A goodtime day spent with good friends begins to wind down as the sun is
almost below the horizon. Although drained both mentally and physically, you
find yourself restless from the abundance of adrenalin still pulsing through
your veins. Drained as you are, you know there's still one more ritual to
perform before full relaxation can completely set in. It's time to suck on a
couple cold ones, and engage in a round of good-humored bullshit with those
who spent the day as you did.

With gear stowed for another day, you're off to begin that final quest.
After locating the stash and getting those first few ooohhh soooo delicious
swigs down, you stand back and assess the growing crowd. Over in one corner,
there's a gaggle of bodies seemingly crawling over each other, urgently
digging for a beer. It dawns on you as you watch, that it vaguely resembles
a flock of Seagulls fighting over an unattended bag of chips left on the
beach. But I digress.

Beers gotten, first swigs taken, and heads looking for familiar faces,
people start to gather into small groups and inherently everyone begins to
rehash the day's events. As always, they embellish their accomplishments,
and swell in the pride of their successes. Who better to talk with, than
those you did the dance with? Besides.the ritual dictates that we all talk
the walk to establish who danced the best.

For the first hour or so, the chatter is as intense as the day played out.
Hero's are crowned, milestones celebrated, and the day's goats roasted.
Further into the ritual, groups begin to intermingle, or some disperse only
to reform into others. New acquaintances are introduced, and new or visiting
faces finally enter into the local fraternal realm.

Finally, and often unconsciously, that sense of total relaxation creeps up
on you, bringing forth the satisfying knowledge that....Life is truly good.
Wallowing in this satisfaction, you realize time seems to have been standing
still. Watching "see-ya's" being made and the crowd thinning, with people
shuffling off to home, or in groups to search for food to numb the buzz, you
know the evening is growing long.

But, you're not ready to go. It was a great day, and you're not ready to let
it end. It's time to grab another beer and head for the one place everyone
knows, is the ultimate cradle of the die-hards. You head for the fire-pit.
That bastion of complete camaraderie, equality, and tall tales. Yes.there is
always good conversation, entertainment, and comfort to be found at the fire
pit.

Approaching, you recognize the expected faces. There's the Gypsy staff, and
visitors from another land, camping on the DZ. The local "go-fer", gassing
planes by day and keeping drunkards in line by night. Students basking in
euphoria from their new experiences, and neophytes in search of the secrets
that have eluded them, listening intently to the expertise of anyone having
more jumps than themselves. An instructor or videographer sprinkled here and
there, often discussing their nightmarish student, or the staff's pecking
order. The quiet introverts staring intently at the flames, periodically
stoking the fire, and reveling in slow swigs of their drink. And.of course..
the usual assembly of chatterboxes, willing to discuss everything and
anything, leading to everyone else's primary source of entertainment.

As you buck up to the fire, look around to see who's who, and decide where
to plant yourself.there's one other character you recognize. You've seen him
before hanging out, and it dawns on you that every DZ must have one of him.
Not really sure who he is, or why he's here, for some strange reason you've
never really given him a second thought. Unsure why, you just assume he
belongs. He's an older gentleman, and it's obvious by his ruddy features
that his life has been fully lived and then some. Noticing him now in a
different light, and realizing you've seen his kind at other DZ's, his
presence begins to pique your curiosity a bit more.

Maybe he's one of those old geezers who tend to be attracted to these
places. They're usually retired, ceaselessly enjoy watching the activity,
and always on a quest to talk it up with someone.almost as if they're trying
to live vicariously through us. But this guy is different. This person
strikes you as one who talks the lingo with a "been there, done that"
confidence. Yet.confusion is the order because you've never seen him geared
up, on the plane, or walking off the LZ. The guy talks the talk.but.you can't
recall ever seeing him walk the walk.

Now you find yourself paying more attention to the man. The conversations go
round and round, and every so often this old geezer pipes up and adds a
little to the topic. A gruff old bastard..talks with a drawl, and not too
caring about what he says or who's listening. It's strange in a way...that
you want to hear what the man says, but your attention span wanes, due to
having a hard time comprehending the jibber jabber style this man speaks.
The man reminds you of an old cartoon character, with his kinda poetic,
kinda prophetic, kinda braggadocios, all wrapped up in a half English, half
who the hell knows what kinda language.

In typical fire-pit fashion, people come and go, the conversations ebb and
flow, and occasionally you give a pat to a passing dog or two, looking for
morsels. You find yourself amused by a few of the newbies trying their
hardest to get in bragging rights, only to be upstaged by one of the more
elder of the group. The one up-man ship comes and goes with the different
topics, and every so often a neophyte or student, talks a little too tall.
This usually brings on a few choice words from others, often with a quick
lesson from an old-timer. As you listen, it dawns on you this is usually
when the old guy with the drawl pipes up.

Just about this time, some neophyte is arguing with an old-timer about how
the good old days are meaningless in the sports environment today. The
debate gets juicy, and sure enough, that old cartoon character pipes up but
good. The rant begins and through the fuzziness of his speech, distinct
words like sumbitch, punks, money grubber's, sheep, sell outs, whuffo's,
wuss's, and something about the strut, are clearly heard, but not much else
registers. All in all, you enjoy the animated tirade for what it is, but at
the same time, see he just may have a point or two.

During this latest go-round.from nowhere.a little mutt of a dog begins
yappin. With most everyone distracted by the rants of the old man, they don't
notice the yip, yip, yap, yap noise at the perimeter, until all of a sudden
the homeliest little dog appears from the shadows. As you see it running
full bore at the old man, your first thoughts are "how the hell did a Shih
Tzu mate with a Great Dane?" Initially perplexed by it's ugliness, it takes
a second to comprehend the mutt's actions, but like a slow motion dream, the
constant yap, yap, yip, grrrrr, yip, grrr, yap, yap sinks in, as well as the
sight of this rodent lunging full tilt towards the drawl master.

Upon reaching it's destination, the little fleabag surprises everyone.
Rather than doing the expected of attacking and snapping, it proceeds to
mount the gab bastard with a four legged-lock on his shin, and dry hump him
with a stiffy, enormous for a dog that size. A truly unbelievable sight,
watching this hairy mutt go at it with the speed of a hamster, all the while
snarling, drooling, and yapping up a storm. After a moment of stunned
silence from the crowd, laughter breaks out as the old man starts cursing
the dog. Eventually, after most hurt from the hilarity of it all, the dog
finishes with one last long messy groan, dismounts, gives itself a quick
lick, and struts off back into the shadows.

Not sure if what you just witnessed, stunned you into sobriety, or another
beer is needed to help comprehend, you decide it's time for another and off
you go. Besides, as you walk away, it's obvious the topics have changed at
least for the time being. Upon returning, the conversations seem to get back
on track, and with continued alcohol consumption, many of the stories grow
taller. Soon enough, the fire-pit again goes through that ritual of the
wrong person attempting to brag too big.leading to the wrath of others.
After being relatively quiet with no more than a few mumbles and grumbles,
the gruff old bastard finally pipes in again, and starts with his rants of
sheep, punks, struts and other things.

"What the".is said by more than one, when just as sudden as the last time,
this same mutt flashes forth from the dark, and noisily lunges at the old
man. Snarls, growls, grunts, yaps, and yips, is the only thing heard as all
watch in amazement. Although this time, it doesn't take as long for the old
man to put up a defense and sling insults at the dog. Humping away with the
same vigor as before, the laughter erupts, and someone actually comments
about the little studs prowess. This brings on even more laughter as pooch
finishes his business, gives a quick lick, and saunters off into the dark.
So.that does it..this is not yet the time to call it a night and go home.
This is too good, and it's getting the fire-pit rowdy.

Not caring, but knowing time is passing.you listen as the conversation's
flow. Sure enough the old man kicks up his tone to berate some youngster. It
can't be.but it's happening again. Like a flash, this rat hound is humpin
the codger's leg, while snarling, drooling, and yapping, just like the first
time. As before.with a quick lick, and a prance into the shadows.it left yet
another gooey mess. However this time, you notice the laughter isn't as
boisterous. Yourself and others.besides wishing you could lay the loads as
often as the dog.are getting concerned with what's going on. Why the old man
you wonder. What set's off the mutt? More than that, where did this mutt
come from?

Well.sure enough. After some time has passed, and things get back to the
usual, debates flair again. As before, the crotchety codger tries to say his
piece, but is interrupted once again by this horny, angry, mangy mutt. The
common thought begins to turn from hilarity, to "here we go again". Although
the target of the dog, and certainly a compromising situation for him, not
even the old man wants to pay the humping hound much attention. "Jeez...what's
up with this", is said by one, with others replying to the mutt to "leave
him be", and "go find a bitch". As before, the rodent hound finishes his
nasty, proudly licks himself, and struts off. The mood has changed, and many
at the fire-pit.not wanting to see another performance.start thinking about
calling it a night. The pooch has started to poop the party.

Just about this time, a voice is heard in the distance.
"Jeeeeeeerrrrrryyyyy....come here boy....Jerry.Jeeeerrrrryyyyyy..come
on..time to go home". HEY....any of you guys over there seen my dog Jerry?

Yeah...it works. Just replace Roger Nelsons name with "paging Jerry K Dink".

"THE MASTURBATING MONKEY DANCE" Thats right folks......think about it.
You're in the Zoo. You go visit theMonkey display. You're standing in front
of a glass front cage filled withthose squirrely kind of Monkeys (Reasis
monkeys, or whatever they're called). They're all in there romping around,
playing, squaking, making monkey sounds.Every so often one of them picks up
feces and tosses it at another monkey, orat the display window. Basically,
they're in there acting like monkeys. As you stand there watching the
monkeys.......you hear an anouncement over thePA system. "Paging Roger
Nelson.......Paging Roger Nelson". All of a sudden andout of nowhere, this
one Monkey jumps up onto the perch that is directly infront of the display
window, and faces you. With one hand he reaches up andgrabs another perch
above his head. The Monkey squats down, spreads it's legswide, and with his
other hand takes hold of it's teeny tiny member. You look atthe Monkeys
face. His head is cocked backwards, a glazed over look in it's eyesas they
roll uncontrolably in their sockets. Tongue hanging limp out the sideof his
mouth, with a steady stream of drool dripping off its tip. You suddenly
notice a rhythmic rocking motion throughout the Monkeys body. Asyou slowly
look lower, you notice the tightened muscles throughout the Monkeysbody. The
hand holding the perch is clenched white knuckle tight. The otherhand,
holding what has now grown to the size of a teenie weenie, is engaged ina
fast, furious pumping action. As you stand there mezmorized by the
display, you notice that the furious pumping action increases in speed
building up intoa blur. At the same time the body begins to convulse as if
going into a severeepileptic seizure. The facial expression all sorts of
contorted, almost as ifin pain. Suddenly, the Monkeys lets loose with an ear
shattering, high pitched, eternally long wailing scream. Just as this primal
moan seems to besubsiding.......the Monkey lets loose, and splooges right at
your face, only tobe halted by the glass front of the cage. As you stand
there thinking to yourslf.........."what the fuck was that
allabout".......the monkey jumps down off the perch, disappears, and blends
backin with all the other Monkeys romping around in the cage. You stand
there for a minute or two, and ponder what you have just witnessed.Just as
you get to the point of shaking it out of your head, and deciding tomove on
to another display..............you hear over the PAsystem......"paging
Roger Nelson........ Paging Roger Nelson". Next thing youknow..........you
are once again bearing witness to.................. "THE MASTERBATING MONKEY
DANCE" So boys and girls. If you are compelled to make a useless post
telling TantrumTerry to "get a life" after reading one of his
rants...............I suggestyou don't do it. Rather......when you feel that
urge to yell at him............just rememberthis mental image.
Then.............make your post your compelled tomake......and let everyone
else know that it's only TantrumTerry...............doing"THE MASTURBATING
MONKEY DANCE"...................again. Hell........maybe someof the kill
filers will take him off the list......just to witness all the fun.
